30.0. "Other packages?" by 36884::CHASE (Cut it large and kick it into place) Fri Oct 13 1989 12:05

Would there be a list of the companies that have solids modeling packages?
I glean from 26 that Parasolid is either a package and/or a company that
competes with Euclid. Are there others? I'm looking for something like
Euclid and running on a 3520/3540 Ultrix system. Although the prospect
would like a Ultrix system, they are not averse to VMS.

Is there such a list with locations and telephone numbers? Or is Euclid
pretty much the only major package?

Thanks in advance.

You have a lot of options. Depening on your customers needs and
niche. The following is a short list of vendors and products.
    SDRC -IDEAS
    MDC -UNIGRAPHICS V.7
    SCHLUMBERGER -BRAVO
    MATRA DATAVISION -EUCLID-IS
    PARAMETRIC TECHNOLOGY -PRO ENGINEER
The BROVO and the EUCLID-IS products can be found in your DEC price
    books.

30.2Why do you want a 3520/40?CADSE::BOYACKSmith & Wesson beats a full houseThu Nov 16 1989 17:5327
In your note you specify the 3520/40.
Therefore, the application must support Phigs.

All of the systems that James listed in -.1 are NOT currently available
on that platform. Several have announced their intentions to port to
    Ultrix and/or Phigs.

Although none of those vendors mentioned have yet delivered on these
promises, you will see some applications available around Q1CY90. Most
are planning to make Ultrix/RISC versions available. A few have
specifically declined porting to the VS3520/40.

Also Bravo is NOT yet in the price book. The announcement recently made
will lead to that end, but from past experience I know it will be a
    "few" months.

So, if you really require the 3520/40,

    			LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP !!!

Don't bring any vendor in until their software is available and through
a good QA and it's clean and provides resonable performance, otherwise
you are just shooting yourself in the foot and jeapordizing the
    account.
