16.0. "Need Documentation" by SALEM::SSAFFER () Thu Jul 27 1989 09:32

    I am looking for some documentation that describes the functionality
    of Euclid (or a User's Manual) to determine the types of designs
    it is capable of handling. Could someone please give me a location
    to copy from?

    Thanks,
    Sally Saffer

16.1Euclid Design LimitationsCUBICB::BARKERFri Jul 28 1989 09:0223
    I am not sure what is available for literature , but it is important
    to remember that Euclid consists not only of the solid modeler but
    many powerful application packages like sheet metal and mold technology.

    We have found that a great deal of design work is done in the
    application packages since they are much faster at generating certain
    types of geometries.

    So far we have been able to create any sheet metal , plastic or
    casting design we like. Currently the limatation on designs is
    the number of links [ 64,000 ] in the boundry representation [ BREP].

    We have not run across an individual part that breaks the BREP but
    it is extremely easy to break it with assemblies. We have to do
    a lot of geometry reduction [ reduce detail ] on assemblies to avoid
    running out of links.

    There are several proposed fixes from Matra but the only one available
    today is " Large Scale Visualization " which allows creatation of a drawing
    of vertually any level of complexity , but does not allow a full
    data structure to be created.

    Thanks Charlie
16.2Documentation Contact...try it!21514::GALGALIKARWed Oct 25 1989 14:398

    This is in reply to 16.1....you may want to ask Lisa Palermo in our
    group. To the best of my knowledge, she receives documentation from
    Matra for validation purposes.

    All the best,
