15.0. "Its that ole devil called plotting again !!" by 44126::SHIELDS (Keep my squeeze on Greenflower St.) Sun Jul 16 1989 11:34

    My name is Nick Shields and I'm a mechanical designer working on
    low end system design in Ayr.

    I have just installed Euclid 2.1A here and have started to use it
    for evaluatory purposes in a design environment.

    I worked with UG for 2 years now and I suppose I know nearly all
    the pitfalls to be had there, however I'll have to fall down a whole
    set of new ones all over again.

    From my initial training it seems a far easier tool to use to integrate
    with DEC hardware, F18 is a delight !

    However I have came up against a porblem in the usual old minefield
    of plotting. I need an HPGL output file. I had Matra in and on the
    hotline at the same time, they told me that Euclid did not produce
    an HPGL output file. I set the plotter up as in the installation
    manual, HPGL offline, still no joy.

    I as yet have received no documentation from Matra. I do need an
    HPGL file out of my system urgently.

    Any hints ?

    Nick.

15.1YES there is HPGL we use it every day.CUBICB::BARKERMon Jul 17 1989 09:109
    That is interesting since the only plotter we drive are HPs with
    HPGL. I think there is a misunderstanding . HPGL works just great.

    Our problem is no PLO support so we can not use the electrostatics.

    We plan to use DECview3D at the next release to convert HPGL to
    PLO.

    Thanks Charlie
15.2Chocolate Teapot - not quite44126::SHIELDSKeep my squeeze on Greenflower St.Mon Jul 17 1989 09:3713
    Our problem is that Matra have not come up with any documentation
    yet. I wouldnt say Euclid's as useful as a Chocolate Teapot without
    it but it would help.

    Until then, has anyone got any ideas, hints etc.. basically I'm
    favour hunting. I have the file ready, I can see it in the spool
    queue but it wont plot. Could someone run the drawing through their
    spooler and get me an HPGL file ?

    P.S. I have a beta-test copy of DECview which should allow me to
    get the required PLO file.
15.31 step forward, 2 steps backwards...16646::BOYACKHeart's in SF, Bod's in San Diego!Tue Aug 22 1989 19:2428
    Nick,
    	I used to work for Matra before joining Digital. In earlier
    releases of Euclid, one plotter would be linked with the shipped
    software but it was an easy task to link up with another. Supported
    plotters included; HP, Calcomp, Bensen, Nicolet (now Bruning)...

    	Do a directory in the Euclid software directories and look for
    any *hp*.olb files. This is the plot library that needs to be linked
    with Euclid. The plotter also needs to be in off-line mode to be
    able to capture the plot file as an ascii/hpgl file.

    	The actual method to relink a plotter library has probably changed
    since I worked at Matra, so you might pose this question to them.
    If you have a problem, call Matra at their Reading England office
    and ask for Lou Coenen. Tell him if he doesn't solve this problem
    straight away you'll lobby Cal-trans to extend 85 to his Reading
    backyard...

    	If you have to, call CTC in Paris and ask for Bernard Jeffroy
    (33-1-69-82-24-00 Matra's Paris France number). Tell Bernard I said
    that he was the only person in the WORLD that could fix their @#!*#$!@
    plotter software!

    			cheers!   :-)

15.4The Plot thickens44086::SHIELDSIt ain't no dragTue Sep 12 1989 05:0011
    My department has just purchased a new electrostatic plotter.

    The model is Versatec 3236 E.

    Has anyone had any experience of using Euclid with Versatec
    electrostatics ?

    Also, is it possible to print good quality coloured images on an
    electrostatic such as the Versatec ?

    Nick.
15.5Versatec PlotterCUBICB::BARKERTue Sep 12 1989 09:4811
    We have not yet succeeded in getting plots to our versatec because
    of the DEC plotter software. Did you buy Versatec's rasterizing
    hardware or are you using DEC's software ? If you bought the Verstatec
    hardware I believe Matra's software should work or atleast they have
    the drivers as part of their plotter package.

    We are working on getting the DEC software modified so we can use
    our electrostatic . We have both a black and white and a color in
    our building.

    Thanks Charlie
15.6Any colour plots yet?44213::HANNAHMore nonsense in a minute, but first this...Mon Oct 23 1989 08:5610

    Charlie,
            What's the current status of plotting to your colour
    Versatec? Any hints and tips would be appreciated.

    We are working on the black and white electro-statics first
    since they are needed in the production environment.

    We do not have a color versatec it the group but do use HPs all
    the time and they work great.

    You should contact Drew Sanford about the color versatec. If you
    bought all versatec hardware [ rather than DEC rasterizing software]
    it may work right now.

    Thanks Charlie
