5.0. "Dr Rick's Corner " by TRITON::OLSON () Tue Mar 21 1989 15:11

This note will be for the BXB [LEMSB] observation on Euclid
and any handy techniques we have found.

Since Rick Olson is our expert user we have titled the
note Dr Rick's Corner.

5.1Doctor, Doctor, tell me the news...16646::BOYACKHeart's in SF, Bod's in San Diego!Mon Aug 21 1989 20:3611
Where is the Dr.? I hope that he's found something for a good Rx
against these nasty bugs we are seeing at GD.

btw-

I have xferred within Digital to San Diego to work on the GD IMS
program. My new contact #'s are in ELF.

regards,

As Hawkeye once said, "More specificity, Frank". IOW, Steve, could
you detail some of the bugs?

5.3Yes we have no bananas...16646::BOYACKHeart's in SF, Bod's in San Diego!Tue Aug 22 1989 20:139
Let's start with IGES.

Have you any wool? Yessir, yessir 3 bags full...

I think I'm loosing it.

Whatever "it" was?

Ahh yes...IGES. We're having many problems with IGES. Specifically,
we've tried to output sheet metal parts through IGES to pass along to SMP-81
for fabrication. What occurs is, screwy things happen to the scale of the
output and certain pieces of the data seem to drop into the bitbucket, i.e.
the material thicknesses of the contours disappear, while all the radii retain
their thickness...very strange. This is not an SMP-81 specific problem, the
bad data appears when we try to pull the part up in UGII also.

Matra is aware of the problem and is working on a patch but I don't
know if it's out yet. Maybe Al Lamoureux can jump in here and give us an
update....

So, keep a grip, Steve, it's not just you! 8^)

5.5More on IGESCUBICB::BARKERMon Aug 28 1989 09:1911
We have spent the last week trying to understand IGES and are getting
closer. Our current goal is to get 3 d wrieforms passed to UG and
to SMP 81 .

From what we can tell so far there are a whole bunch of output
switches that can be set to change file formats and other good
stuff. The lack of documentation is slowing the efforts down.

IGES may well work if we know how to set it up .

thanks Charlie
5.6Euclid-IGES switches...21514::VAGHULMon Aug 28 1989 13:4914

Charlie,

We have done some intial work on understanding what the switches are
and how it works. Bob Unnold has spent quite a bit of time with it. He
is putting out a document that will highlight the procedures.

Also, he did some passing of files between Euclid to DECview3D. The
findings will also be documented.

Regards,

5.7IGES to SMP-81 worksCUBICB::BARKERWed Aug 30 1989 08:1813
We have succeeded in getting IGES files into SMP-81 and are
now planning to do actual post processing on the parts and
get them made in the Mill proto shop.

We are woring on IGES importation into UG and Decview3D next.

When we find all the right magic decoder setting for IGES to
each of the tools we are interested in we will post it in the
notes files. We expect there will be different IGES representations
depending on the tool your are going to. An example is do you
want a circle as a poly-line or and arc.

thanks Charlie
5.8EUCLID 3D part fabricated.CUBIC2::HOARYMarto Hoary - P&P, BXB2 Dtn 293-5895Thu Sep 21 1989 09:313
I hadn't read this note before so I wrote a new note, No. 27, to
announce the successful fabrication of a sheet metal part from Euclid
solids geometry, ported via IGES to SMP81 for NC postprocessing.
5.9EUCLID STILL HERE!POBOXA::OLSONWed Aug 03 1994 17:3810
IT'S BEEN AWHIDE BUT EUCLID IS STILL HERE. I'M RUNNING EUCLID3 ON A ALPHA OSF
3000-300 AND IT IS FAST AND WORKING GREAT.
EUCLID3 HAS A LOT MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS;

CHANGING SHEET METAL MATERIALS
STRETCHING SHEET METAL PARTS
ADAPTIVE SURFACES (LIKE SOLIDS)
B-REP EVALUATOR (SOLID TO SURFACE)
