198.1 | Maybe memory leak or timing problem? | STKHLM::OLSSON | Anders Olsson, DC Sweden | Fri May 13 1994 19:54 | 23 |

.0> MRmemo fails occassionally with following error
.
.
.
.0> %SNALU0-E-XMTFAIL, call to SNALU0$TRANSMIT[_W] failed
.0> -SNA-E-MUTOSENDCHK, MU generated a send check, sense code %X'200A'
I have seen that error a few (very few) times during testing but never
found any reason. I couldn't reproduce it.
What is "fails occassionally"? Once a day, week, month?
Does it ever happen when MRMEMO has just been running a short time (a
few hours or maybe a day)? If it only happens when MRMEMO has been up
longer than that, it could be a memory leak. Oherwise, it might be some
timing problem that seldom shows itself. In that case, an SNA trace is
probably necessary to be able to diagnose the problem.
What's the hardware & software involved? VAX model, MR version, SNALU0
version, SNA/Gateway type?

| Anders,
Occassionally is here sometimes 5 times a day, then 2 or 3 days nothing,
then only once, next day 3 times, etc ... really irregular.
It happens after MRMEMO has been up several days, its not related to
the start of mrmemo.
The hardware is a 3100 running VMS 5.4-3
MR 3.2
SNALU0 version and SNA/gateway type will be posted later.
The SNA trace you mentioned, is that the one from the DECnet gateway ?
regards,
Luc Verbraeken

Does this mean that the error message is "harmless"? I.e. do you have
to restart MRMEMO to get the traffic going again or is the "only" problem
that you feel uncomfortable with the messages in the log file?

Yes, more specifically - a session level trace.

It is more the uncomfortable situation the customer is in.
But he wants to understand why this happens.
Further info received is:
 DECnet/SNA gateway v1.5 BL022
 RSX-11S nonrouting IV

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that kind of gateway. Is this by any
chance an old DECSA? In that case, I guess the customer is already in an
uncomfortable situation due the unsupported status of the DECSA.
If I'm wrong and this is a supported gateway, maybe there is a DECnet
problem. Have you checked the DECnet counters on the systems involved?
