Hi,
Alternatives are:
1) X.400. Verimation have an X.400-84 MTA (X.25 only). Supports
MEMO<->MR communication but not necessarily MR->MEMO->MTA Relay (not
too sure about this). Obviously you could connect either MRX or MAILBUS
400 this way
2) SNADS via MR/S. I think there are a few installations that have
tried this, I do not know how successful they have been.
Verimation (sellers of MEMO) will try and sell any of these two above
MRMEMO, as they no longer develop their MRMEMO software (which they call
MRGATE, this is usually where the confusion starts). We no longer
develop MRMEMO, for that matter, but it's still passionately supported.
The greatest advantage of MRMEMO above the others is that DDS
registration of your MAILBUS community is not required. With Address
Translation you get "soft" DDS lookups that will use the DDS
information when it's there and use Message Router type adressing if
not. It should also be cheaper than the X.400 solution because
Verimation's X.400 Gateway is expensive.
In the long term I guess an X.400 solution would be the best. Make sure
to find out whether Verimation's software can do MTA relay. If it can't
then obviously there is no way for your Mailbus users to reach an ADMD
over MEMO, and the entire organization would have to use other means to
connect to an ADMD eg MRX!
cheers,
Stefan

Hi Bill,
> Does our VAX mailgate for MEMO need the IBM mrgate product to
> communicate with MEMO.
Yes
> Am I being forced into your possible solution 2 ie. SNADS and mr/s
I wouldn't say "forced", but it seems reasonable to try and use what
they already have.
cheers,
Stefan
