129.1 | Not today... maybe in the future | STKHLM::OLSSON | Anders Olsson, SIP Sweden | Fri Mar 20 1992 18:40 | 24 |
| Hello,
When the current version of MRMEMO (V2.1) was developed, there was no
capability for transfer of binary documents in the prototcol we use
for communication with Memo. (This protocol is defined by the Memo
developers - not by us.)
Since then, Memo/GWY 1.1 (a piece of Memo software on the IBM side) has
been released by Verimation and in this version there is a binary
document flag. So, now it would be technically possible for us to add
the ability to exchange binary documents with Memo.
But will we implement this, and when?
Well, today there are no firm plans for another MRMEMO version, but work
is going on to examine the possibilities to get funding for a new release.
If and when a new version is planned, I think that transfer of binary
documents is one of the things that are likely to be included.
Any plans to start the development of a new MRMEMO version will be
announced in this notes file so that we can collect requests/wishes/
thoughts etc. from all you MRMEMO supporters out there.

| Hello Anders,
some customers in Germany also waiting for the possibility to
exchange binary files with MRMEMO.
Hopefully you will find the funding !!!

129.3 | Have the customers fund the changes | STKOFF::SPERSSON | Pas de probleme | Tue Mar 24 1992 10:57 | 15 |

On the other hand, if your customers *really* require this
functionality, why don't you ask them to fund the explicit addition of
binary file transfer themselves? As I've stated before, we have done
this for other customers with specific requirements. I don't expect
this to cost more than a few man weeks of development.
Please remember that in order to fund new versions of MRMEMO, someone
must make the judgement that the funding will pay off in new licenses
or that the added functionality is of some strategic importance. How
likely do you think this is?
cheers,
Stefan

Some customer expects this functionality inside the gateway.
We have argue with the missing functionality in Memo/GWY 1.0 but this
argument is gone now.
>> How likely do you think this is?
For one customer a K.O. argument.
I don't want to force you to rewrite the good MRMEMO, i will only call
your attention that the binary file transfer is not a neglect point of
view on the customers side.
Therefore i hope that you will get the funding.
cheers

129.5 | What is the status on this ? | KETJE::VANHOOSTE | Guide to Shadowland | Thu Jun 18 1992 14:11 | 17 |
| Gents,
What is the status on this ?
If nothing new, do you still thinbk you could add the code on request ?
[Not a funding statement, just a question]
ALCATEL in Belgium looks like they'll go A1MAIL + VMSMAIL + MR.
BUT they are using MEMO PC which generates binary files and they
would like to get them in MR environment.
Currently they have a SSW connection with MEMO. SSW can relay the binary stuff,
but seems to forget to strip some memo header info from it, so that route is
useless (or seems to be at least without MRXLATE, which makes things only more
complex).

129.7 | Will this work | YUPPY::CARTER | Windows on the world... | Fri Nov 13 1992 15:24 | 14 |
| Hi
I take it from this discussion that the following will not work..
User sends ALL-IN-1 Mail message with a 123 file (WK3) attached to
a MEMO user who forwards it to another ALL-IN-1 Mail user and then the
ALL-IN-1 Mail user can see and use the 123 file
(we have tested this using MRS and its fiddly, but the attachment is
passed and can be used)
