120.1 | MEMO restriction, they should fix it | STKOFF::SPERSSON | Pas de probleme | Fri Feb 28 1992 15:21 | 24 |
|
Hi Luc,
The 75 recipient limit is within the MEMO product. The best way is
probably and ask the MEMO system manager if he can investigate whether
the limit is configurable, or if there are MEMO versions available that
don't have this limit. I tried to call my Verimation contact, but he's
away for another week.
I don't understand why you don't get non-delivery notifications. If
your situation is analogous to 71 you should. What does
MRMEMO$DIR:MRMEMO1.LOG say?
The obvious workaround is to persuade the customer to make sure his
recipient lists contain <75 recipients. If that fails and all
investigations on the MEMO side prove negative, you can ask your
customer whether he's prepared to pay a standard Digital consultancy
fee for a customized version of MRMEMO that splits messages into nice
little pieces with <75 recipients. We have been known to do this kind
of thing. The effort would be measured in weeks, not days or months.
best regards,
Stefan

120.2 | What other limits ? | SUOSW3::63610::moog | UteMoog | Mon Mar 16 1992 11:30 | 14 |
| Hello ,
I ran into this distlist problem as well. Somebody tried to send to a
distlist with 865 entries. Efect was, that the Gateway hang. Message got
through from MEMO to MR, but the other way round was blocked, with alot of
stackdumps etc. in the logfile, but no non-delivery or else.
What other restrictions like MEMO-size, line length limit, transparent
transport of PC files etc. are known for a MEMO system ?
My customer would be very interested in those facts, as they have MEMo as
their "mail backbone" and are a bit irritated by their limits (see above).
Thanks Ute

120.3 | MEMO is built on old technology | STKOFF::SPERSSON | Pas de probleme | Mon Mar 16 1992 13:45 | 19 |

Hi Ute,
The MEMO size limit was originally (50 kB), but in recent MEMO versions
this has been "upped" to 500 kB (there may be even more recent versions
that support larger still messages, I haven't kept detailed track) I
also think that the MEMO system must be explicitly configured to accept
larger messages than the previous limit.
The maximum message line size that can be passed through the MEMO Gateway,
according to the protocol spec, is 255 chars. I don't know whether this
limit applies to stand-alone MEMO as well.
I'm afraid I don't know anything about how MEMO goes about doing
transparent file transport.
Your customer is very right in questioning MEMO's ability to work as a
Mail backbone, especially if they plan to use MEMO to relay X.400
traffic.

120.4 | Confirmed info | STKOFF::SPERSSON | Pas de probleme | Wed Mar 18 1992 16:23 | 11 |

I spoke to my friendly Verimation contact right now, and he confirmed
that there is a (configurable) upper limit of 500 Kb.
The 255 character line size limit applies to MEMO internally. You
cannot create a document within MEMO that has less than 32 (!) or more
than 255 chrs line size.
cheers,
Sefan
