72.0. "SCREEN MAIL ???" by SUOSW4::MOOG (ute_moog at suo) Tue Feb 12 1991 16:16

    Hallo MRMEMO-Users,

    at BOSCH a problem /question arose concerning SCREEN MAIL (I'm not sure
    about the spelling and who produces it). It is a product that makes it
    possible to communicate with external MEMO users using SNA as transport.
    The exact thing we are trying to do is :

    - send a mail from ALL-IN-1 via MRMEMO to BOSCH MEMO on the IBM side
    - the IBM side then should transport this mail to MEMO at Volkswagen

    It works fine for "real" MEMO users.
    The mail disappears in MEMO's belly for DEC users using MRMEMO.
    The MEMO people told me, that there is no special acces or flag needed
    to use SCREEN MAIL.

    The addressing syntax is as follows:
    SM.DEVWAGG.user

    where DEVWAGG is the DGN of MEMO at Volkswagen.

    Does anybody know details about the product or why it can't be used
    when sending with MRMEMO ???

    Thanks in advance for your help
    Ute

72.1MRMEMO is not to blame (I think)STKOFF::SPERSSONPas de ProblemeTue Feb 12 1991 17:4021

    Ute,

    There is nothing in MRMEMO that I know of that should cause any
    problems. I performed a test using our simulator with your address
    format (ABC.DEF.GHI) and the message came through correctly.

    Just to make sure that MRMEMO is not causing the problem, could you
    tell which MRMEMO version you're running and whether you use any kind
    of DDS validation or address translation? Then I could perform the same
    test using your configuration.

    I have never seen nor heard of SCREEN MAIL (ie I seem to recognize the
    name but I have never put it in connection with MEMO Gateway
    capacities). If SCREEN MAIL is some kind of 3rd party software, then
    maybe you should try and find out whether they can cope with address
    formats other than DGA.DGN

    regards,

    	Stefan

    Hi Ute,

    may be there is a misunderstanding. It seems that you are able to send
    from BOSCH to VW and the MEMO users can receive the message whereas
    VW ALL-IN-1 users don't receive the message. The transport is as
    follows:

    MR  <--> MR/MEMO  <--> MEMO <--> screen mail <--> MEMO <--> MR/MEMO <--> MR

    If this is correct then you must address the VW ALL-IN-1 users with a
    DGN different from the DGN of the MEMO users, i.e. somethging like
    SM.DEC.user (ask the VW people for the prefix of MR/MEMO).

72.3DGN has to be registeredSUOSW4::MOOGute_moog at suoWed May 15 1991 14:548
    Hallo,

    the question solved after some talking to IBM people (at BOSCH). For
    SCREEN MAIL all participating Distribution Groups have to be
    registered. Our distribution group was not known to SCREEN MAIL.

    Thanks

    Perhaps a bit late, but SCREEN MAIL is actually a very cut down version
    of DISOSS and uses SNADS. So you could have reached it via the MR/S
    gateway also.

    SCREENMAIL is offered BY IBM on their own network as mail for
    companies. Something like MCI mail ...
