53.0. "DECWINDOWS required?" by SNOC02::BOUNDS (Alan Bounds SWS Wollongong) Tue Oct 30 1990 07:32

Looking at the V2.1 documentation I see that DECWINDOWS Base V2.0 is a
software requirement. Is this manditory for all VMS systems not just
VAXstations? I will be installing MRMEMO on a MV3100, SNA gateways and
management already exist on the network and I only want to install the
minimum number of layered products to support MRMEMO.

    	Thanks Alan.

53.1CDA$ACCESS is requiredSTKHLM::OLSSONAnders Olsson, SIP SwedenTue Oct 30 1990 11:3517
Well, DECwindows isn't actually needed. The component that is needed is
SYS$SHARE:CDA$ACCESS.EXE (used for DDIF to ASCII conversion). This image
has been residing in the DECwindows kit and the supported way of getting
it into the system was to install DECwindows. I don't think there is
anything else needed from the DECwindows environment.
As of VMS V5.4 (5.3 ?), however, CDA$ACCESS is included in the VMS kit
so there shouldn't be any need to install DECwindows.

Maybe the list of prerequisite software shouldn't include DECwindows but
we chose to play it safe. Note that MRMEMO is a *product* in Sweden and
Germany, which makes the "safety" considerations stronger.

Since you are selling MRMEMO as a PASS, which (I guess) requires some
on-site work anyway, you can choose whatever way you like to get
    SYS$SHARE:CDA$ACCESS.EXE into place.
