22.0. "Is there an SPD?" by 60876::SMITHNICOLE (Sydney, Australia) Mon Dec 11 1989 05:43

Is there an SPD for VAX Mailgate for Memo? We have a brochure from the
distributor in Australia, and it quotes SPD no 2941 which doesn't
    exist.

    Thanks in advance,
    Nicole.

PRODUCT NAME : VAX MAILGATE for MEMO V2.0 SPD 29.41.01

DESCRIPTION

VAX MAILGATE for MEMO enables the exchange of messages between users of
Digital based mail systems and users of MEMO running as a VTAM application. The
Digital based mail systems must support the distribution of messages via the
Message Router. VAX MAILGATE for MEMO and the Message Router must reside on the
same node in the network.

MEMO is a general purpose electronic mailsystem running as a VTAM application on
the IBM System 370 or equivalent under the operating systems MVS or MVS/XA.
MEMO provides the user with a text editor, a catalog function, a user profile
and help texts, accessible through interactive usage of a mailbox menu.
MEMO contains certain functions not applicable in a Message Router environment.

Message Router is a general purpose system for the distribution of messages. It
provides a Message Router application with a store-and-forward mechanism.

VAX MAILGATE for MEMO is developed to enable the interaction of DNA and SNA
networks to provide a general purpose electronic system for the distribution of
messages.

VAX MAILGATE for MEMO supports the sending and receiving of messages between VAX
mail systems with equivalent Message Router software and MEMO systems with the
required software, using a valid VAX/SNA configuration.

The VAX MAILGATE for MEMO Manager Utility, MRMMAN, enables the System Manager to
configurate and manage the operation of VAX MAILGATE for MEMO.

VAX MAILGATE for MEMO is able to maintain an accounting file of all messages
passing through VAX MAILGATE for MEMO. Any error messages produced during the
operation of MEMO, can be stored into a log file.

Sender and recipient addresses can be stored in the distributed database DDS
(Distributed Directory Services). Using a manager utility these addresses can be
serched in DDS:

o Sender authorization
o Recipient validation

VAX MAILGATE for MEMO supports the distribution of different kinds of
notifications:

o Delivery notifications
o Receipt notifications
o Non delivery notifications

VAX MAILGATE for MEMO supports text files in either ordinary ASCII format
(DECMCS) or in WPS-PLUS format. The WPS-PLUS messages are converted to ASCII
format before being transferred to MEMO.

The messages sent by MEMO are expected to be in EBCDIC text format.

Providing the MEMO recipient supports rejection of erroneous messages, any sent
message with unrecognised syntax or format, will be returned to the sender.

VAX MAILGATE for MEMO supports these language variants one of which be chosen
during installation:

o English
o German
o Swedish

I might add that Version 2.0A will not mean any functional changes to
    the SPD.

The obvious question is: will MRMEMO run on VMS V5.1 and V5.2? We have
seen nothing to indicates it wouldn't

        Hung,

Yes that's right. But you don't write down everything in the SPD that
        the product supports.....
We are using the 'MIG-TOOL' DCF converting WPS-PLUS and DX document but
        we have't tested DX enough.

        Regards,
        Jan
