16.1 | How to Order and RC forms optional and up to each group. | VAXUUM::HARAMUNDANIS | | Thu Aug 24 1995 15:21 | 16 |
| I became involved in this question because someone approached me to have a
Word Reader's Comments form created. I polled some project managers and
called together a small team that took another look at the traffic we get
from these forms, and their value. Some groups have already decided not to
use the forms at all, and put in their own local contact point, often an email
address. Based on this information, the team recommended that the RC forms
be dropped, and that each group establish where they want comments on their
product documentation to be sent. Thus, you can either edit the existing
RC form, or drop it altogether and just put in a pointer to an email address
(that someone will have to monitor), or your group's administrator, who
should be able to forward items that arrive.
This recommendation, with details, is currently on its way out to everyone
as an SES-bit.

16.2 | I'm more curious about the How To Order form, not RC Card | TNPUBS::J_GOLDSTEIN | Run over on the Info Highway | Thu Aug 24 1995 18:20 | 10 |
| Thanks for the response, Kathy.
Actually, I'm asking about the How To Order form which tells you how to order
the documentation from various locations, not the Reader's comment card (which
we are not including). If I could easily confirm that it is accurate as it
appears in the RCPAGE template, then we'll probably use it with out the RC Card.

16.3 | Check the Systems and Options Catalog for "How to Order" addresses... | VAXUUM::HARAMUNDANIS | | Fri Sep 08 1995 15:32 | 4 |
| The easiest way to ensure that you have the most current "How to Order"
addresses is to check with the most recent version of the Systems and
Options catalog. The same information can also be found in the Digital
Reference Service that probably is available in a nearby Digital library.

| Aha! I knew there was a way. Thanks.

16.5 | Systems and Options Catalog of little help | PAMSRC::XHOST::BONDE | | Thu Sep 21 1995 13:35 | 22 |

Perhaps it's just the outdated version of the Systems and Options
catalog I'm looking at (Jan'95), but I find it of little help for
verifying the addresses/phone numbers on the current "How to Order..."
form (which, by the way, provides *different* information depending on
whether you process it for .PS or .TXT output!)
The S&O catalog does talk about the Electronic Connection (our order
form calls it the Electronic Store, though, and the baud rates are
off). But there's no way to verify the Telephone and Direct Mail Orders
addresses and numbers, other than calling the numbers.
Are the mail order number/addresses for Puerto Rico and Canada useful?
Why aren't any numbers/addresses for Europe included? Why not just
provide the number for DECdirect?
I think it would be great if this note could be used to share ideas
and resources to develop a new alternative to the traditional "How to
Order Additional Documentation" blurb. Unless, of course, SES
designates (and funds!) someone to take on this issue.

16.6 | Our sleazy way out... | TNPUBS::J_GOLDSTEIN | Run over on the Info Highway | Thu Sep 21 1995 13:38 | 10 |
| We decided to "sleaze out" on this one. We have a statement in our Associated
Documents section in our Preface that says something like "to order additional
documentation, contact your Digital reseller or representative."
Since so many of our products are sold through "channels", maybe it doesn't make
sense to expect customers to order from Digital directly.
cheers,
