1. INTRODUCTION

In this task force, we will demonstrate a process for validating
a product by creating and testing a User Interface set before
    coding begins.

2. SPECIFIC GOALS

The goals for the task force are:

o Create a model for how to do documentation first.

	- Enter the development cycle early.
	- Influence development of product interface.
	- Create architecture for online and paper information.

o Implement model for End-To-End Performance Management Tool.

o Test this design in the user community.

o Create seminar to present findings of docs. first methodology to
       T&N Publications.

3. NON-GOALS

The non-goals for the Docs. First task force include:

    o FINAL Docs. First Methodology

4. DELIVERABLES/IMPLEMENTATION (note - include End-To-End product schedule)

    Deliverables include:

    o Phased methodology approach:

	- For Phase I - a list of steps that need to be taken
                        (what we did)

	- For Phase II - define what goal methodolgy should
look like (what the ideal would be)

    o Training seminar

    Implementation is:

o The End-To-End Performance Management product, including
       documentation, GUI, and online help.

5. SCHEDULE (Note - this schedule is at the mercy of the product schedule)

o European Interop in October '93

o Expected Field Test in December '93 or January '94

o Final Product expected in April '94

    o Training seminar - November '93

Meeting of Docs. First Task Force

Those present: Ruth Callahan
                John Harrison
                Cindy Painter
                Mike Quinn

Happenings:

  - We were originally going to use the Autodiscovery project to apply our
docs. first test methodology to, however this project was shelved by
    engineering.

In light of this, we are using the End-To-End Performance Management
    project instead.

  - This project is still in Phase 0, which is expected to close at the end
of September, thus making it a viable project for the docs. first task
    force.

  - We updated the action plan and the result is what appears in .1 of this
    notestring.

  - Ruth went over the details of the project and presented what she has
been working on with the engineers. Her current approach is:

o Get together with the engineers to design the interface on paper.

o Work on what needs to appear in the interface regarding pulldowns
          and create Interleaf sample screens.

o Determine what goes into online help.

  - We chose to add one more deliverable to our Action Plan - to create a
seminar to present this methodology to our fellow writers in T&N Pubs.
