68.0. "Printerleaf->.PS "bitmap decompression failed" error" by TNPUBS::JONG (Interleaf: A desk's top publishing) Thu Apr 30 1992 13:07
Question:
I was trying to create a PostScript file from a large, complex
book. The PostScript filter failed to convert the whole book; instead,
I got a second file, and inside it was this message:
Bitmap decompression failed.
Interleaf encoding
eras = 2238360 size = 57446 w = 1975 h = 2001
I tried to print the PostScript file, and in the job log there was
this message:
%LPS-W-UNDEF, undefined: Name not known - offending command
is 87fffffffffffffffffffffffc03ffffffffc003
%LPS-E-FLUSHING, Rest of Job (to EOJ) will be ignored
It is very difficult to isolate the problem. I think it is one
component in one document in the book, because if I take out only
that component, everything else builds. Yet the one document builds
by itself, and even the one page does, and I can print the page and
the document directly.
What does it all mean?
Answer:
Ah, grasshopper, you have not rebooted your workstation lately,
have you? Further, I sense that the component contains a very
large bit-mapped image.
Interleaf was unable to convert one of the bit-mapped images to
PostScript notation because of memory or process exhaustion. The
PostScript file created is invalid, and when the printer reached the
bit-mapped image, it stopped.
To fix this problem, try rebooting your workstation.
