65.0. "Printer properties changing on their own" by TNPUBS::HALLOWELL (How many secrets can Victoria have left?) Wed Feb 05 1992 16:26

    Hey! What's going on here?

I'm making edits to various documents I've had on my desktop for quite
some time (read: a year or more). But when I go to save them, I get the
message "Can't open printer fonts" across the top. I go into my printer
property sheet and sure enough, the 'Default printer' property has been
changed from "nearest ps" to "nearest cx". I change it back to "nearest
ps" and the document saves with no other problems.

What is happening to these documents to make that property change like
    that?

    Something else:

After creating a new index for a book, I sent the document to NACDOC2.
The index printed right away, and then I remembered I hadn't changed
the printer property sheet from the template I copied over from the
Comm cab. I went into the printer property sheet, and as expected the
"Default printer" was set to "nearest cx". I always thought you had to
change that setting to "nearest ps" BEFORE the document would print.
    Now I'm confused.

Rikk, I think that portion of the printer property sheet is irrelevant.
It's the type of font that's important.

I agree that if it's changing on you that's spooky, but it shouldn't be
    a problem.
