14.0. "Interleaf in a box" by INTER::JONG (Steve Jong/NaC Pubs) Fri Oct 27 1989 20:50
I have been running a copy of Interleaf, resident on my workstation
disk, all week. It took half a day to load, and some cabinet links
have been lost temporarily. But I want to tell you, it is
SIGNIFICANTLY better than running Interleaf over the network.
Starting up interleaf is about three times as fast. Opening documents
seems faster. General response is noticeably faster. I seem less
vulnerable to network burps than before.
Leaving my desktop on INTER has its advantages. I can still rely on
the nightly backups, and the storage capacity is great. But having the
software available locally is better than having to rely on the
building Ethernet segments.
It's not optimal yet, but it's an improvement!
