Announcing the
Cornerstone (SES Workbench)
PROTOTYPE
======================================================================
Overview The Cornerstone (SES Workbench) prototype supports
SES's business success by using technology to help
people like you do their jobs more effectively and
efficiently.
This is a PC-based environment. It contains tools,
templates, supportive information, and organizational
information such as contacts for scheduling a
conference rooms at various sites, job aids, an
Excel-based mileage voucher, organizational chart and
much, much more.
Prototype This prototype was developed for:
* Proof of concept
* A design idea to collect input and feedback from
contributors through DEMON::CORNERSTONE
* The current technology (Windows 3.1) with
Microsoft Office installed on the hard drive
System The prototype requires:
Requirements
* Windows Version 3.1
* Microsoft Office 4.2c (on the hard drive)
* 1.2 MG Space
The Cornerstone will run on Windows'95 and Windows NT;
however, some items may not function properly.
In addition, if MS Office was not installed properly
or resides on a server, you may experience problems
accessing some of the tools/templates through the
Cornerstone. You can still access the them through
the "Cornerstone: Tools/Templates" program group,
which was created during installation. Through this
program group, you can define the properties for the
tools and templates and use them for your development
purposes.
Refer to the README file for more information on
defining properties.
Installing the The Cornerstone prototype installation kit is
Cornerstone available from:
DEMON::SYS$PUBLIC:[PUBLIC.WB]WORKBNCH.EXE
Note:
You should close all applications before running this
installation procedure to avoid possible conflicts
with system files that may be opened by other
applications.
1. From VMS, copy the following files to a temporary
area on your system:
DEMON::SYS$PUBLIC:[PUBLIC.WB]WORKBNCH.EXE
For example:
$ SET DEF [to a directory for a network copy]
$ COPY/LOG DEMON::SYS$PUBLIC:[PUBLIC.WB]WORKBNCH.EXE *
%COPY-S-COPIED, SYS$PUBLIC:[PUBLIC.WB]WORKBNCH.EXE;1
copied to [your directory]WORKBNCH.EXE;1
2. From your PC, go to the MS-DOS prompt by double-
clicking on the MS-DOS icon located in the Main
program group.
3. Change the directory to the network drive that has
the WORKBNCH.EXE file:
For example -- If the network drive is N, then:
C:\> n:
N:\>
4. From the MS-DOS prompt, expand the file with the
following command:
N:\> workbnch.exe /d
NOTE: It is extremely important to include the /d.
This will create the appropriate directory
structure.
5. When the file finishes expanding, from the File
Manager, double-click on the SETUP.EXE file.
6. Follow the instructions that appear during the
installation.
Using the To start the Cornerstone, double-click on the
Cornerstone Cornerstone icon located in the Performance Support
program group.
From the main menu, you can view the Getting Started
or jump into one of the following support categories
to access the information:
* Daily Activities
- Contains items such as access to terminal
emulator, a calendar, directions to facilities, and
contacts for scheduling conference rooms.
* Development Activities
- Contains a sample interactive development map.
The ultimate design will guide users through the
workflow of project activities and provide links
to associated templates, tools, documents,
samples, and more.
* Tools and Templates
- Contains project plan templates, RFP templates,
monthly/quarterly report templates, overhead
presentation templates, project estimating and
forecasting tools, mileage and expense vouchers,
and much, much more.
* Library and Support
- Contains valuable job aids, standards, guidelines,
and reference information.
* Resources and Services
- Contains organizational information, success
stories, service descriptions, and demonstrations.
Feedback The SES Workbench development team would like to hear
your input on the prototype. Please send your feedback
to DEMON::CORNERSTONE. Also, if you have templates,
job aids, or information you feel would benefit
others, please let us know.

Subj: RE Cornerstone: Video for Windows
Kathy,
Video for Windows (VFW) is required for the
demonstrations which can be accessed from
the Resources and Services category (main menu).
The installation of VFW on Windows'95 systems
was discussed at great length with the software
engineer and a system manager. From these
discussions, it was communicated that there is
a problem only if using CBI Quick. Installation
of VFW was tested prior to releasing the kit. We
did not experience any problems.
During installation of the Cornerstone, the user
can stop the installation of VFW by clicking on
the Exit buttons.
It is possible that the information the team has
on this is incomplete. We welcome your input
regarding this -- if you would like to elaborate
more on what problems you experienced.

Subj: CAUTION RE: Cornerstone Workbench installation on Win95
This is a caution, until I find out more...
Be aware that the Cornerstone Workbench installation
procedure has a component to it that installs
Video for Windows 1.1e.... which I believe is the program
that we have been warned via other channels can cause
problems if you install it on Win95.
I've reported my concern to DEMON::CORNERSTONE,
so I will hopefully get more info to pass on to you.
In the mean time, if you want to install the
workbench on Win95, here's what you need to do:
- When it gets to the message box that tells
you it is going to install Video for Windows, you
can click OK... (That's all you really can do, besides
ending the task abruptly.)
Clicking on OK causes the SETUP.EXE for Video for Windows to
start up... at this point, you should click on the EXIT button,
then click on the EXIT button again to confirm that you do
not want to install Video for Windows.
I'm sorry, I don't have any info at thist time re: what kind
of problems (if any) you'll run into if you install Video for
Windows on NT... or whether it is required.
Regards,
Kathy

Subj: Cornerstone Concerns
Kathy,
Someone will contact you regarding the VFW issue.
To answer some of your other concerns regarding the
Cornerstone ... On the Windows'95 only a few items
may not work properly, as follows:
* Daily Activities - Terminal Emulator
This was based on using Windows 3.1 and
PATHWORKS. The SETHOST application is
called. With Windows'95, SETHOST does
not work. You can use many other apps,
as I am sure you are aware, like
eXcursion or Telnet.
* Tools and Templates
During installation, a program group was
created called, Cornerstone: Tools/Templates.
If the tool/template from the Cornerstone
menu does not start when you click on it,
then use the program group, which are identical
to those in the Cornerstone.
You can change the properties if the path that
was defined is incorrect for that template.
For Windows'95, Cornerstone: Tools/Templates is
listed under Programs.
* Resources and Services - Demonstrations
Three of these demos (Alpha Learning Module and
the two RA90 demos) require VFW. If you did not
install it, they may not run properly.
