Subj: \\server-name\service-name%username controls file ownership.
I've just learned a way to control the ownership of files
generated in project directories by PCs. Since several
people had had difficulties with this lately, I'm led to
believe that this technique is not common knowledge.
If you attach to a project directory file service or share
(PATHWORKS V5.n term) using the format:
\\server-name\service-name%username
such as:
\\DEMON\PCSYSMGR%BAHN
You'll be asked for your OpenVMS password. Thereafter, any
files that you create from your PC will be owned by your
account. The file protection will still be:
S:RWED,O:RWED,G,W
but, since you own the file, you can change the protections
for access by others in the group using the OpenVMS command:
SET FILE/PROT=(G:RWED)
