39.0. "Word for Windows SWAT Team Minutes" by TNPUBS::ICENOGLE (Kathy) Tue Jan 30 1996 11:03

This topic will be used for posting
Word for Windows SWAT team minutes to
keep you informed of their activities.

The WFW SWAT team consists of a small
team of contributors within SES who have
the Word expertise needed to address some
of our needs, such as training and template
development. Some of their deliverables
have been:

	- Janet Clifford's WFW seminars
	- SES doc templates
	- info on/distribution of the portable
		PostScript print driver that is
		needed for EDMS compliance

Meeting Agenda/Discussions:

	Introductions

Summary of 12/8/96 "Advanced WFW Bookbuilding Hints/Tips" seminar
		> Seminar went well; many positive comments
		> Some comments - too long, do only 1/2 day sessions
poor display (barco unit is poor quality
						    display)
		> Changes to "Advanced WFW Bookbuilding Hints/Tips" guide
will be made after template changes have been finalized.
		> Notes from the seminar were distributed

	SES WWW Information Station presentation
		> Barry Lein presented the structure for the SES WWW
Information Station to show us where the WFW SWAT Team
WWW page and the WWW (tool) page would fall in that
		  structure
		> A prototype of the Information Station is available to
		  view
		> If you have not already done so, complete your business
cards and copy them to the appropriate directory
		> This effort is tied in with the ISO 9001 certification
project (Janet C. is on this project), and with the
SES Workbench (called "Cornerstone" - contact Marion Hamblett)
		> A pointer to Barry's slides has been distributed to the
		  WFW SWAT Team

	SES/IDC Templates
		> Peter provided us with an update on the changes he has
		  made to the SES/IDC templates
		> All template files have been combined into one file SES.DOT
		> Many new changes/updates have been made to the template
		> This template is for WFW V6.x
		> Peter will send us a pointer to the new udpated .DOT file
		> The user guide has not been updated to reflect new changes
		> Several individuals are testing this new template
		> Peter will present at the new WFW SWAT Team meeting, and
also do a Brown Bag session on this new template
		> Peter is working on A4, A5 and 85x11 course templates
		> ETC February 29th
		> More indepth template discussion will take place on 1/30

	DEC Template
		> Jim Carrig described the changes that he has made to the
		  DEC.DOT template and user guide
		> Many of the changes fix problems that existed in the
most recent version of this template
		> Some style names were changed which may effect the
		  compatability with the DECBOOK DTD
		> The new DEC template has been tested using V6, and V7.
		> This template has not been test using Windows NT.
		> Jim will attend the template meeting on 1/30
		> Reviewers of template need to be found
		> Jim to send out location of template and guide

	Template Names
		> We decided on the following names for the updated templates:
			SES_V6.DOT
			DEC_V6.DOT
		> If/when the name of our organization changes; we will
revisit the issue of template names
		> The WFW Version number will be included in the template
names to avoid confusion about which version the template
		  supports

	Print Drivers
		> Jae Kim presented his findings on print drivers for
		  Windows 95
		> Many of the print drivers we use (including the DEClaser
43 font print driver) are installed with Windows 95.
		> People need to make appropriate changes to the print
driver settings via the Windows 95 setup dialog boxes
		> SSB has done testing with these drivers and the Normal
WFW Template; files were EDMS compliant
		> Testing needs to be done using SES templates, and Windows NT
		> Jim C. will work with Jae to help resolve print driver
		  problems

	What's next?
		> Provide 1-3 hour training sessions on WFW related topics

		> Create a survey to determine what SES people are using
		  (WFW Version and templates)

		> Create job aids (i.e. troubleshooting)

Marie H. mentioned that the templates and user guides are
great, but they focus on creating new documents, and
there is little information on troubleshooting existing
		  documents.

The troubleshooting job aid will also include information
regarding problems that have been identified that are not
WFW problems, but are related to the operating system and/or
		  PC hardware issues.

		> Templates for WFW V7; after we complete the update on the
WFW V6 templates, and key individuals obtain Windows 95,
we will begin working on templates for WFW V7
