Note 768.0 Word Can't Start Powerpoint 1 reply

    After the installation of Windows 95 and Office 4.2c, Word cannot find
    Powerpoint executable. In Word, when I click on a powerpoint
    slide, the error "Word cannot edit the MS PowerPoint V4.0 slide"
    is displayed.

    If I open a new Word document and use insert object to insert
    a PowerPoint V4.0 presentation, the error "server application
    cannot be found" is displayed.

    The powerpnt.exe is in the correct folder under MSOffice\powerpnt.

    Also, when I print to file to create a .ps file in Word the description
    of the file in the Explorer is "MS Powerpoint V3.0", instead of
    postscript.

    Does anyone know how to fix these problems?

    With the help of a friend, this problem is fixed. It turns out that
    when Windows 95 was installed, Office 4.2c/Word 6.0 was moved to a
    different drive. However, the win.ini file was not modified to reflect
    this move. We edited the \win95\win.ini file to point to the new
    location of Office, and the problem went away.

26.2Creating PostScript files with Word 7PEGLEG::PRESCOTTTue Mar 05 1996 11:4223
    Printing to a PostScript file in Word 7.0 is not all that intiutive;
    here's what you have to do.

    1. Pull down the File menu

    2. Select Print...

    3. Click on Print to file

    4. Click on OK

    	(the Print to File window comes up)

    1. In the File name field, enter the file name in quotes:
        "filname.ps"

    2. In the Save as type field, select:
        All Files (*.*)

    If you don't do it this way, Word tries to create a .PRN file. These
    files are *humongous* and take a long time to create -- and I'm not
    sure they're useful to us.
