24.0. "Windows 95 Activities" by TNPUBS::ICENOGLE (Kathy) Thu Jan 18 1996 10:57

This topic is reserved for info on what people
in the cost center are doing with, or learning
about Windows 95.

If you are having trouble with Windows 95, you
might be better off discussing the problem
in the Windows 95 conference on NOTED::WINDOWS95.

Subj:	re:incompatibility of Video for Windows 1.1e and Windows 95

Linda Marsh has been experiencing problems with CBIquick .avi files running
on Windows 95. Rich McMahon indicated that installing Video for Windows
on Windows 95 system will cause problems with multimedia.
(Note: Video for Windows drivers are included with Windows 95)

In discussions yesterday with engineers in the VIIS group, they
confirmed that Video for Windows 1.1e should not be installed on
Windows 95 systems. If it should be installed, there is no way
to deinstall. The only way to fix problems is to reinstall
Windows 95. My understanding is that this reinstallation
is straightforward, allowing you to keep all previous settings.

All installation software for courses that require Video for Windows
should first check whether system is running Windows 95. If so,
kit should not provide option to install Video for Windows.

Also, any 3.1 kits that include option asking whether user wants
to install Video for Windows should provide question prompt
before starting Microsoft's Video for Windows installation (when
Microsoft's VFW installation begins it is not clear to the user
that they can cancel during next step of installation).

Please communicate this requirement to kit developers.

thanks, Paul

There are several notes under the multimedia topic
regarding using Video for Windows on Win95.

Bottom line: Avoid installing Video for Windows 1.1e
on your Win95 system.. you should already have 32-bit Video
for Windows installed as part of the operating system.
