Subj: Preview of "A Bend in the River"
Debbie:
I've booked the Julia Ward Howe CR for Monday, March 23, 2:00-3:30 to
preview the discussion of the book "A Bend in the River," by local historian,
instructor, and author Jay Pendergast. The purpose of this preview will be
to enable the committee to listen to the author's discussion for VoD merit,
before asking Dr. Pendergast to speak to us at DEC.
The discussion is an interesting look at life in this area from
prehistoric time to the 1700s in terms of how the Indians lived and how
their lives were affected by the early settlers. It's not only an
anthropological and historical discussion, but a study in culture clash and
a look at the final eradication of the native American life by the settlers.
The quality of the production of the tape is not great, but the content
of the discussion is dynamic.
You may want to include only the VoD committe members, or open it up
to a larger group. The call on that is yours. Thanks for the support in
this.
