57.0. "Wang buys Bull (Does anyone still look at this conference?)" by CAPN::WOOD () Mon Mar 06 1995 12:38

Recently the Boston Globe reported that "Wang Labs Inc said it has signed
a definitive accord to buy much of the service and system-integration
businesses of Paris-based Cie. des Mechines Bull ...".

Do the service and system integration businesses make up the bulk of
the current Bull operations? I wonder if there are any employees of the
1980s left?

Hi. I occasionally check the conference to see if there's anything
new. I was surprised to see this.

I don't know about the percentage of operations represented by the Wang
buy, but I do know that there are some employees from the 1980s and
well before left in Billerica (they sold it and leased back some office
space)--who are there to get ready to close the doors. I'm in touch
with Glenn Ryan, who did leave Bull when Bull sold the ISO9000
consulting business he's in to a small company (he went with it), and
Ken Adam, who is still with Bull but not for long. These fellows have
been there since the late '60s (I started with Honeywell in 1969 and
    they were both there).

I wonder how many of us ex-Honeywell/Bull people have survived at
Digital? I've made it through nearly 8 years and am really
    surprised...
