It's been a while since I've had a chance to follow this notesfile, and
on seeing this note, I said, "gee, [they] must be referring to my
hardware buddies". So, yes, I am one of the contact people on the
hardware side and had been involved in running an "annual" holiday time
lunch for the power, mechanical, components engineers, etc. We did not
have a get-to-gether last winter due to the turmoil both here and at
"H" as well as a serious illness with one of the ex-H Deccies who was
in the process of setting up something.
I thought I had better write this note as sort of a sayonara for most
of us hardware types as we expect our ranks to get decimated within the
next month. Of the 12-14 ex-H people I talk to on at least a quarterly
basis, we expect that 8-10 of us will be on the streets due to the
upcoming layoffs in September. During the past year, 3 or 4 others
either took the voluntary package or were forced to take it. So our
ranks of the H-force at DEC are nearly gone. A couple of us will
survive until early 92 only because they will be on short term
disability; partly due, no doubt, to the extreme stress during the past
18 months here at DEC.
I will try to send updates to the distribution list to Bill K. within
the next week.
Cheers,
Fred

| Bill K,
Does it make sense to try and keep a "sayonara" or "where are they now"
list of ex-h people? Like where they are and how they can be contacted
if anyone has a lead?
The intent is definitely NOT idle curiosity, but the hope that we might
be able to help each other? Who knows, we might need the help
ourselves. And who better to help than our friends fron H.
Does this make any sense?

I'd be happy to maintain such a list, giving name, employer/location,
InterNet address (if any), and home/work phones. I think it would be
wise to have the person's okay before publishing their home phone
number, though. Well-known Bull survivors may also be included (please
don't expect me to enter the Bull phone book 8^).
SEND MAIL and I'll start compiling such a list. Please don't send home
phone numbers without the listees' permission.
