| I am very saddened by this, Bill was very very good to me, he hired me
out of college and started me in this business and was very good to me
for all the years I worked for him. To me he was a great man, and I'll
always remember him for how he changed my life.

| To avoid confusion, this was Bill **K** O'Neill. who was in network
software last I knew him, not Bill **F** O'Neill who is in DG, I
understand.
I remember Bill K as a soft spoken gentleman, very knowledgeable but
very friendly except very strong advocate for his people. I liked him a
lot and liked working with him and just plain talking with him. I
cannot say I will miss him, simply because I lost touch with him, but
it hurts to know the likes of Bill are gone.
I am also wrestling with the situation of a couple of friends (not from
BULL) going into manic depression, one enough to be hospitalized for
treatment - and he is not that old either!
The world (*our* technological world) suddenly turned very ugly for me.
Yes, yes, I know no individual, let alone a corporation is responsible
for the actions of another individual. But surely, surely it should be
possible to recognize individual merit (irrespective of age
stereotyping) and individual contributions? We are reluctant to throw
away even the oldest hardware - why the cavalier attitude to people?
Very sad.

| I heard the rumor Monday but was loathe to put anything in here until
it had been confirmed. By then the note had been entered.
Indeed, this was the Bill O'Neill who managed development of
communications software in Billerica. I never worked FOR Bill, but I
did work WITH him. His dedication to the success of the company, even
when there was little cause for optimism, was unquestionable.
I can easily believe that learning of his layoff at this point would
be a crushing blow. Whether or not he hoped to "get even", the pain
must have been unbearable. I pray for him and for all those he leaves
behind.
