10.1 | Manno is Leaving | TSG::PHILPOT | | Tue Jun 16 1987 13:59 | 5 |
| The latest news today is that Gene Manno IS leaving, effective
July 1. Don't know where he's going. But there is a continuing
mass exodus still going on over there, and morale is about as
low as it can get.

| Not a Rumor but the reported fact...
Sad to see that the Smith Street building has been sold.
It was the first" Hi-Tech" building that we moved to from our quarters
in Newton. We thought we had "arrived". And it was fun.
Lot of personal memories. Though I had spent some time in probably
every building that Honeywell was in, except Brighton and Totten
Pond Road, 200 Smith Street was special.
I wonder how many of you out there had worked in that location?

| Re .2:
The primary reason for the planned move from Billerica (Concord Rd.) to
Andover was to make room for the folks from Smith Street. Rumor had it
that it would take about two years to get everything moved; Smith
Street is the hub for HVN in the northeast, among other things.
When the move was shelved, I heard nothing more about the sale of
Smith Street. Obviously, it went ahead. Can Andover be far behind?
My fond(?) memories are of the first few times I tried to get between
buildings. And of the handicapped parking slots which were set aside
at the bottom of the stairs leading to the employee entrance to the
north wing. 8^}

| Any truth to the rumor that the Middlesex Turnpike groups (ASD and
Special systems) will be moving to the Lawrence facility?

10.5 | Gene Manno at Arete Systems | ULTRA::HU | | Mon Dec 14 1987 11:30 | 4 |
| Gene Manno is now the president of a suuperminicomputer start-up
company called Arete Systems.
This appears to be yet another of those UNIX based deals.

A little conflict of interest wouldn't you say? Manno was the one
spear heading the Arete 1200 has Honeywell's high-end UNIX box.
And rumour has it that it's performance isn't "cutting the mustard!"
A sleazy VP world we live in!

10.7 | the latest rumors ... | MBEZZL::PHILPOT | | Fri Mar 11 1988 08:12 | 16 |
| Has anybody heard any new rumors lately? Someone from my old group
just called, wanting to know if I'd heard anything, since the Honeywell
employees are always the last to know! :-)
It seems that their annual kick-off meeting was supposed to be held
last Wednesday at the Sheraton Boxborough, but at 4:30 on Tuesday,
it was cancelled because Bill Gould was called to Minneapolis.
So now there are several rumors flying around the Concord Rd facility:
1) Gould will be soon fired or otherwise gone
2) There's talk of a 3 week shutdown soon
3) Also talk that Office Systems will be "going away"
Does anyone have any info?

| -< Some more rumors ... >-
I talked to Lenny Proposky and John Kerr of the photo lab yesterday and, from
the conversation, gathered that things are again beginning to look not too good.
They mentioned a possible 3 week shutdown this summer as well as a cutback in
engineering projects, a possible layoff to be announced this month and a general
austerity program. They also mentioned that Sy Kraut was back as VP, although
from where I don't know since I never followed what was going on in upper levels
of managment. Also heard that Fred Lamb of field service has retired, Larry Root
of mechanical design will be retiring and Al Marrone of security is returning.

| In reply to 10.7 (Hi Lynne!)
Yes, the "office project" is going away - to France, but will be
maintained in Concord Rd. for a year or two. No layoffs expected
or shutdowns, not even over Christmas! There is something about
Concord Rd. doing the UNIX development for HB in the future.
DPS6's will mainly be used as TP machines since HB considers TP
to be one of their strengths. They are also just starting to
Cluster DPS6's.
