5270.0. "Pointers to ESP (Electronic Solution Provider) Discussion" by NQOS02::nqsrv519.nqo.dec.com::SLOUGH (Dennis Slough; Novi, MI dtn 471-5154) Thu May 01 1997 18:55

Anybody know of an ESP (Electronic Solution Provider)
conference or thread within this conference? Anybody
able to load it on an Alpha/NT system? Anyone else
having problems getting it to perform fast enough to
be of use on an SWB laptop? I'm hoping to find a
discussion about this potentially valuable tool.

I agree with Dennis that we need a conference describing the
Trilogy product <aka - ESP (Electronic Solution Provider)>
because one of my first questions will be: why does this
    product require 174MB hard disk space + a CD-ROM + a dial-up
connection just to configure a system?

The dial-up part doesn't work in many customer meetings because
of the lack of an analog dial-up telephone line.

Has anyone tried to install Trilogy without using their hard disk?
Is there any performance issues that is seen beyond the 28.8K modem
    performance?

I too, am very excited about the potential of this tool. However, it is just
"not there yet"...

I was able to load it on my AlphaStation running NT/FX!32 with limited
success; the needs analysis works. The catalog does not.

I will be happy to join in on any discussions. The SWB folks have scheduled
May 13th, 12-1pm EST for an ESP/Trilogy concall. The DTN is 264-9844. Perhaps
that is the proper venue for proposing a notesfile/forum/public
folder/whatever.

Unfortunately, I'll be on a plane at that time...

5270.3My Attempt at ESP on NT install Errs w/ "Wrong Windows"NQOS02::nqsrv533.nqo.dec.com::SLOUGHDennis Slough; Novi, MI dtn 471-5154Fri May 02 1997 14:489
I get "wrong version of Windows" error message when loading
ESP on NT/Alpha. I figured there was a way around that but
thought someone else may have documented how somewhere so
haven't taken the time to decipher a method.

I've noted SWB con-call date and time. Perhaps I'll be free
to attend.

Dennis,

I too got "Wrong version of Windows". It turned out that the software
needed to be installed with FX!32's "Install X86 Application" utility.
That got me beyond the install problem. I am however unable to do much
with the application before it dies with "illegal access" type of
messages. I wonder if it was ever qualified in a Windows NT environment,
Intel or Alpha.

5270.5Oh, Due to Good fx!32 Performance I've Never Taken That RouteNQOS02::nqsrv406.nqo.dec.com::SLOUGHDennis Slough; Novi, MI dtn 471-5154Fri May 02 1997 18:038
Ram,

I've had very good experience just slipping in the CD (for Quicken, TurboTax,
Lotus Smartsuite, and a bunch more), therefore I've never looked at INSTLX86.EXE
(or any other fx!32 utility) before. But, since it croaked on you after a
successful install I won't be rushing into a test myself.

I started a thread in TALLIS::FX32 Note 316 about ESP & Alpha NT. My
first problem has been solved. Everything except generating quotes works.

I'll continue this thread over there.
