                          TECHNICAL HANDS ON TRAINING
                              April 16 - 18, 1997
                                LAB DESCRIPTIONS

AlphaServers - A Look Inside

This lab will be delivered in three segments: Low End Product Line,
Mid-Range Product Line and Enterprise Product Line. Segments will
begin with a quick overview of the product line, emphasizing the
changes and/or enhancements since the last THOT session. From the
overview, the session will move into an in-depth discussion of
configuration details.

In addition to reviewing the AlphaServer Platforms, we will provide
training on the AlphaServer TruCluster Program. Through the use of
packaged systems and a dedicated TruCluster Configuration Guide, this
program will simplify the ordering and delivering processes, increase
customer satisfaction by delivering a functioning cluster to the
customer, reduce the sales cycle time and begin to respond to Sun's
Smart Cluster marketing.

The key to the success of this program is the bundling of VIS
(Value-Added Implementation Services) with selected AlphaServer 1000A,
4100, 8200 and 8400 machines. VIS will provide the installation and
configuration of software through the TruCluster Software level to the
 customer's specifications.

AlphaStations

A laboratory setting beginning with an introductory overview
presentation on the Workstation products and services focusing on the
current product lineup: The DIGITAL Personal Workstation "a" and
"i"-Series; DIGITAL UNIX Workstations; PowerStorm graphics; and
Multimedia. It will include a review of hardware and software service
and support, performance optimization, firmware and driver updates, and
configurations.

Integrating Microsoft Exchange and DIGITAL Mail Products: Tools,
Techniques and Tips (AM ONLY)

DIGITAL Mail installed base is considering many different mail options,
most specifically, either integrating existing mail products with
Microsoft Exchange or planning a phased migration to Exchange. This lab
focuses on the product features, tools and services (including third
party products) which support these customer scenarios. The products
and tools will be demonstrated with emphasis on how, when and why to
implement them.

Internet/Intranet Mail: Providing pre-and post-sales support to
Enterprise Internet and World Wide Web installations (PM ONLY)

This session opens with a 20-minute overview of DIGITAL mail and
messaging product strategy. The lab focuses on the new Internet
features in Microsoft Exchange V5 and how DIGITAL adds value to the
environment. It also will cover new Internet and Web features of
DIGITAL Office Server on OpenVMS and TeamLinks V3.0, both shipping this
summer. Products will be demonstrated as well as hands-on time
provided.

Network Products

The Network Products session will include two Lab portions:

VNSwitch - Learn how to setup and configure the new DIGITAL VNswitch900
products as part of the DECHub900 Multiswitch by using Command Line
Interface and DIGITAL ClearVISN

MultiChassis Manager. Learn how to create and manage a VNbus.
ATM/IP Switching - Get hands-on experience using DIGITAL
high-performance Gigaswitch ATM products including verifying ATM
Firmware and upgrading line cards to support IP Switching. Provide
experience actually utilizing an IP Gateway and Controller.

NT Integration with OpenVMS

Upon completion of these labs the student will have built a file and
print server using the new and improved PATHWORKS V6.0 for
OpenVMS/ALPHA.

Student tasks will include:
Install and configure PATHWORKS V6.0 on an OpenVMS V7.1 Alpha.
Configure licenses using the new license manager.
Create an NT trust between an OpenVMS server and NT Domain
  Controller.
 Create print shares on OpenVMS.
Configure the single sign on component of PATHWORKS V6.0 and OpenVMS
  V7.1
Use of the new DCL command line interface for PATHWORKS V6.0
The student will also install configure and use the new PATHWORKS 32
for NT and Windows 95. Student tasks will include:
 Installation of PATHWORKS 32
Installation and use of the new Power Term terminal emulator.
Configuring the new password assist component of PATHWORKS 32
In addition to these labs we will discuss the new features of
PATHWORKS V6.0, PATHWORKS 32 and how they help integrate OpenVMS
  with NT.

OpenVMS I - OpenVMS Affinity Program (AM only)
This session will include demonstrations and hands on training on the
Affinity Wave 4 with strong emphasis on Internet and Data Access. It
will include OpenVMS file systems, data warehousing solutions and lab,
OpenVMS continuous computing solutions and a hardware update.

OpenVMS II - Network Software Solutions (PM only)
This lab will provide information about the design and implementation
of the Network Software Solutions. It will include solutions and labs
covering OpenVMS Internet Product Suite, OpenVMS Management tools,
TCP/IP, Ipv6, and DECnet Plus, IBM Interconnect.

StorageWorks

The DIGITAL StorageWorks Sessions will be available on Wednesday
afternoon and twice on Thursday. A two hour lab session on managing
Storage with the StorageWorks Command Console on various platforms
(Windows NT, Digital Alpha, and "Open" UNIX). An interactive
presentation on "ULTRA SCSI and what it means to you" is planned for
the balance of each session.

Introduction to TruCluster Configuration (Full Day)

It is recommended that you plan to attend the full day session as the
"hands on" portion taking place in the afternoon is built on the
knowledge conveyed in the morning. This seminar provides an
introduction to the TruCluster product. The components, features,
installation, configuration and setting up of services will all be
described. After sessions on hardware and software configuration the
instructor will demonstrate the related tools, operations of system
administration activities associated with the topic on a complete
TruCluster configuration in the class room.

In the afternoon session students will create an NFS Service on their
own clusters.

After the class the students will understand the hardware
configuration, software installation, and failover processes. They
will be able to create an NFS service with fail over capability.

Windows NT Clusters
This is an updated session on DIGITAL Clustering for Windows NT, high
availability, maximum uptime answer from DIGITAL for business critical
applications. The lab will examine Clustering hardware, software, and
interconnect issues, with particular focus on upcoming Version 1.1 with
Windows NT 4.0 and RAID support. Both Intel and Alpha server
implementations will be shown. Students will be able to properly
configure, install, and demonstrate the DIGITAL Clusters for Windows
NT.
