| Is Pauline not the second high level Digital Executive to go to Tandem?
I believe Enrico Pesatori is a senior executive at Tandem. What is
Tandem doing that would draw Pauline, or anyone else?
Forgive me if I am not up on things!

Sunny and warm California was supposedly a big factor.

| This is a pisser! I thought I rather liked Pauline. I understood what
she said and believed what she was saying. She even came around to us
worker bees on the floor at NIO and gave us (15 or so people) and extra
speech after her plant speech.
Keep a close eye on who goes with her!

| Yes, California was part of the draw. And so was an "offer she
couldn't refuse". She did tell me that "to Digital's credit,
they did work very very hard to try to keep her here."
She also said it was one of the hardest decisions she ever
had to make.
I agree that "this is a pisser", and a tough loss for all of us
who worked for her. But she did not leave in indictment of Digital.

I'm afraid I don't share your fond feelings for Ms. Nist.
In my brush with the TFSO knife I was the last to know.
Ms. Nist dissolved the central engineering group I was a
part of without bothering to tell those in the group. A memo
went from her to the various client organizations which
essentially said, "We're getting out of the central engineering
business and are going to lay off these people. If you want
'em, you can have 'em." Several days later the memo made it's
way back to us peons in the group.
Fortunately for me, my major client took me on.

| One of my many pleasant memories of working in Pauline's organization was
when she returned from a vacation in the Far East and gave a lunch-hour
slide show of her experiences in Japan and China. I felt like we had
actually witnessed the 2000 year-old terra cotta army in Xi'an after
Pauline's insightful commentary.
Big loss for DEC, but the Pittsburgh Steelers gain a West Coast fan club.

| OK, let's see....SGI buys Cray....plan to shift from Alpha
microprocessors in Crays to MIPS chips in Crays....
Tandem uses x86 chips in their multiprocessors....
Pauline, a strong believer in High Performance Computing and EXTREMELY
Alpha knowledgable moves to Tandem
Any thoughts on the odds of Tandem using Alpha chips in the not too
distant future????

| Tandem used MIPS chips in their S2 boxes as far back as 1990.
Their Cyclone stuff is/was based upon a 16bit stack machine architecture.
In 1990, they were a company of 400 people I think.
I really wonder what's in the future for Pauline and Tandem.

Of course it would have been better with Exchange ... people would
have sent you mail intended for Kurt, but you never would have got-
ten it either.
