| I think administratively it's an awesome way to deal with the
elimination of paper trails.

Ok, they automate the $30/wk. They give you an online expense
app. They now pay for your gas. Where's the beef?

| This is long overdue. I saw this coming when
they gave us the fuel card. They should
have been smart enough to have figured it
out when they issued them.
This is great. It saves me the time
and expense of writing a check every week.

| Read very carefully the first part of the form. You are agreeing that the
deduction will continue until the car is sold, returned to the
lessor, or transfered to another driver. So, if you no longer need the
car, but its not up for return, and there is no one in your office to
transfer it to, it looks like you are agreeing to continue the weekly
deduction. Could be a nastly gotcha.
On the other hand, it does now make the Plan A very painless for
paper work. No gas bills, no checks to write, and even with all the TMS
problems, a fairly simple reporting process.

| Other than the tone of the memo itself, I think it is a great idea. My
wife could never understand why I needed to write all those $30 checks.

So, what's the problem? You get to keep the car, with free insurance,
maintenance and fuel, for $30 per week! Line forms to the rear.. ;-)

I think it is a great idea, less paperwork for me. I'm still waiting
for my "bill" due digital for past use. Even though though TMS has a lot
of pains associated with it's use, I see a lot of benefits.

That is a good question, my guess is that policy will change that your
car cannot be placed on vacation status... just a guess.
|
4802.11 | It's clearly stated on the form | DECIDE::MOFFITT | | Tue Aug 27 1996 13:41 | 13 |

I believe the guess is wrong. The form I have has an area to check off stating
you'll be on vacation with room for a start date and a stop date. The form
clearly states that you should FAX/send it in 2 weeks before you take vacation
The decuction will stop and restart based on the dates on your form.
Did the original person who asked the question about vacation read the form
first?

| The only gotcha on vacation time is that you have to turn the keys into
your manager. If you're like me, on the home alone program and
60-someodd miles from your manager, it gets to be a small problem...

What's your problem? Just make an extra key for your vehicle and send it to
your manager. When your go on vacation fill out the form and send it in on
time and tell your manager that he has keys to your vehicle and give hime
the address where it is parked. If some one needs to use it they can get it
.

There's no new gotcha here. Here's the policy that's been in effect since 1995:
Fleet Policy
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vehicle Expense Reporting/Reimbursing Effective: 15-Jun-1995
Policy No. 13.0
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Screen 7 of 7
GENERAL INFORMATION Cont'd
H. Examples when personal use charges may be waived:
The personal use charge may be waived if the qualified user is
absent from their normal work place for a period of time (minimum of
at least one week) provided the vehicle is returned to the control of
the Cost Center Manager during that period of time.
The personal use charge may be waived if the assigned company car is
in the shop for repairs for three consecutive days or longer and the
driver is not using an "unassigned vehicle" or has been provided with
a rental car.

Yes the payroll deduction was a very good idea.

As I read it, it said that if you chose to take your car on vacation
with you, you simply do not stop the deduction. Drive it away. Pay
for your own gas. No change.
