4729.0. "www.service.digital.com/help" by OTOOA::RANGER () Wed Jul 17 1996 10:51

    Hi,

Does anyone know who manages or takes care of www.service.digital.com?
This the "Multivendor Customer Internet Services" site.

I have a number's of customers who've been refered to this site to get
access to server patches They've all said they cannot access info
    on how to proceed.

I've tried it, and was successful from an internal IP node. I went into
"patches", then "contract access". From this menu I try to access
"complete document on accessing patches from ftp.service.digital.com",
clicked on it and got the info needed to proceed. For some reason they
cannot open or get to this document.

The customers get as far as going into "contract access" and viewing
the menu of choice that is there. When they try and access the
"complete document on accessing patches" they get an error
"could not connect to ftp server". The pages they are trying to
     access are file://ftp.service.digital.com/info/how_to_ftp_patches.
Is there some security restriction they should know of, or is this
error simply due to a connection limit?

I would appreciate any pointer to someone I could speak to about
     this problem.

      Thanks in advance...

I'm not Jack or Jim but...

The most likely reason the customer's access is failing is that they
are not broadcasting their node id. The gateway does a check back to
see if the node that comes in is who it says it is. The actual technical
language here has been deleted frm my memory banks. liesl
