Compaq - Says it is revamping from 4 into 3 divisions
	{The Wall Street Journal, 3-Jul-96, p. B8}
The revamping is an effort to better package systems for customers and push
deeper into high-end computing involving the Internet and workstations. John
 T. Rose, who had been head of Compaq's commercial desktop division, was named
head of the newly named Enterprise Computing Group, replacing Gary Stimac who
is leaving the company. The new organization will be broadened beyond
Compaq's core server business to include more networking and Internet
offerings. Mr. Rose will also be charged with building a workstation business
for Compaq. The company's commercial desktop PC unit and its portables unit
will be combined into a new PC Products Group that will also focus on
communications products and packages for small and medium-sized businesses.
Michael Winkler, 51, who had led Compaq's portable computer division, was
named senior VP and general manager of the new unit. The Consumer Products
Group, which handles Compaq's home computer market, will continue to be
directed by Michael Heil, Compaq said.

Why can't we attract VP's with his track record? John got a raw
deal from KO. Jim Lui didn't have a clue, then Enrico came
and re-wrote history to say that the PC group didn't exist before
he came on board. Now the PCBU is comming back full circle with
a business model focus that John started nine years ago. John didn't
have a lot of fans (or support) outside of his PCSG group in Littleton
and everything we accomplished was an up hill battle.

I had a lot of respect for John back in the old days. That respect
has grown considerably since I've seen the quality of most of
the VP's that have rolled thru here in the past few years. I'm
reserving my opinion of Bruce C for another few months. I certainly
hope he is successful, or we're history.
