I'd be extremely surprised if anyone could telll you that figure
reliably. First of all we don't report internal breakdowns within
Business Units (in fact we don't even report BU figures publicly).

Secondly, since the days of Gresh Brebach, SI at Digital has struggled
with the concept of "what business are we in?". This has led to
    varying practices of ;

    	- counting only consultancy-hours,
    	- the above plus sub-contracted cost+margin,
    	- the above plus leveraged ABU hardware & software.

Take your pick - you will not get a consistent answer world-wide.

Perhaps with Sri at the helm of the new SI Business Unit within the
new Digital Services Division announced yesterday we'll have a
more professional approach to counting the work and the money from
    July 1st 1997.

You're both right (it's fiscal year 1997 then).

I think there was always professionalism in the way work was done and
counted. What was not too good was the market approach-which
markets(usually ALL..)and the idea that SI did 'presales' work to
    leverage hardware sales.
Two things need to happen-the idea of 'presales' as such should
stop(free advice is worth every cent..) and a reasoned and pragmatic
review of which things we decide to be good at.There are some markets
that are enormous(like canning beans..) but not for Digital. As a
simple example-network video is a big deal, but not for Digital except
as a network services(upgrade, bandwidth etc) player.

The TLAs are different, but somehow the new org reminds me of old
