years back. You might contact this individual today to get an update
on the cost. I'd be interested in an update. Hope this is a helpful
starting point.

BILLING
The US X.400 Service has been in operation for 5 years and during
that time any usage costs have been absorbed at a high level. This
will change starting in FY95 (July 1994) to conform with the new
CNS/Telecom billing model to charge back service costs to the owning
cost center. Reports detailing usage and cost will be distributed
monthly to the cost center managers for the rest of FY94 to assist
in budgeting for FY95. These reports will be available in the VTX CoC
detail section of the Cost Center reports. If you have any questions
regarding these costs, please contact Bob Yost @MSO.
Listed below are the costs for using the US X.400 Service:

4648.2 | my experience (FWIW) | OTIGER::R_WHEELER | Bureaucratically Impared | Sat Jun 08 1996 07:53 | 10 |
| I've always thought the cost of a FAX was the cost of a phone call.
As far as I know, here in Cleveland area, a local fax costs nothing, the
same as a local phone call (no three minute min., no charge for local
phone call)
Therefore, a two minute FAX to LA is the same cost as a two minute
phone call to LA - I guess in the ballpark of $0.40-$0.50.
I do a bit of FAXing from home for a museum I run, (Edison Birthplace)
and local FAX is no charge, a two minute FAX to Japan is about $2.50 -
that's my personal experience.

| .2 is correct. Voice, fax, whatever - the phone company charges the
same rate. To get an idea for a specific fax machine, talk to the
facilities group that supports the machine, or the CC manager for the
CC that supports the machine - they can share with you the charges
that have been incurred for a particular machine. As a general rule,
whatever the associated call charges are for an outbound fax and no
charge for an inbound fax, if you ignore fixed expenses - phone line,
fax machine, paper, etc.

| I suspect the charges mentioned in the memo reflect FAXing via software, as
when one is using VTX IR and selects "send a FAX" to get a SPD sent to a
customer. Everytime I do that I get a confirmation that tells me the cost
of that FAX. Since one has to enter a cost center to send the FAX, my
assumption was that the costcenter was automatically charged that amount.
As for sending from am actually FAX machine, I'm not sure how facilities
charges the various costcenters using the machine, but I'll bet the have
some method in place.
