4513.0. "Help for "Multimedia Library" offer wanted" by EDDF10::NICOL (Tobias Nicol * Systems Integration * DTN 861-3465) Fri Mar 29 1996 10:35

Hi,

we're just working on an offer for a customer of us. The customer is a public
library, who wants to install a number of PCs in a reading room. From these PCs
the users should have access to "Electronic Publications", such as text,
graphics, sounds (esp. music), videos and special application data. The users
should be able to browse through a database of all available publications to get
an URL of the wanted object. This database is not part of the offer! With this
URL an "Object Server" should be accessed, which accesses the media via a
"Media Server", which serves it virtually to the PC.

If it is necessary to use an application to display the data, this application
should be installed automatically on the user's PC. Because a WEB-Browser should
be used for the browsing and the display of the standard data, there has to be a
possibility to start this mechanism.

The Media Server has to be able to access the following medias: >14 CDs through
a CD-ROM-Subsystem, >15 out of >800 CDs at one time in CD-Jukeboxes, >80
CD-Images on Hard Disks (for performance reasons) with >5 parallel accesses,
Audio- and Video-CDs. Furthermore it has to be possible to copy diskettes to
hard disks and serve them from there. The CD-ROM drives (Quad-Speed, <=200ms,
SCSI-2, multi-session) have to be able to read the following formats:
High-Sierra, ISO 9660, CD-DA, CD-XA, CD-I, Bridge-CD, Video-CD.

These are only some cornerstones of the offer, but I hope it's enough to
understand the environment of the desired functionality.

We're searching for someone who is familar with these "Library Multimedia
Themes" and would be able to help us, or someone who knows products which could
be used. Maybe you could give us a contact person?

Many thanks for your answer in advance and best regards,

	Tobias Nicol.
