4480.0. "Unisys 2200 on Alpha" by MPOS02::CAMPBELL (Progam Manager) Wed Mar 13 1996 23:54

Met with a Unisys engineer a couple days ago who works on the channel
code for their 2200's. He mentioned that they are trying to emulate
the 2200 on the Pentium Pro and not getting the performance they had
hoped during simulations. My question is, who would call on them to
try and do this? We used to have a technical sales force - are they
    still around?

Hi Pat,

Try Rich Rose @ALO.

He has been working with the Digital Unisys Migration Center for several years
on the New York State Department of Social Services Programs.

I believe that there is a third-party partner in Canada that has ported the 2200
operating system to Alpha.

I'll make sure that my manager gets the base note. We're the Mainframe
Solutions Group, a corporate marketing & account support group, and
we've been dealing with Unisys and their "starving" customers many
    times.

Re .-1 No, OS2200 does NOT run on an Alpha. What I guess you refer to
is Allinson-Ross, a company that has a TP monitor for the Unisys
platform that they now also support on Alpha Unix.

and Re .-1 There is no such org as a "migration center". That
disappeared years ago. As for the actual migration work we bring in
third parties that actually know their stuff and have bodies.

And working with Unisys mightbe alittlebit easier now, since their SI
group can actually sell (and have done!) Digital systems as part of a
SI project. They've also ported MAPPER (a very popular 4GL tool) to
Alpha - BUT they refuse to sell it as a product. They still think it's
    too risky.

Anyway, I'll pass on the base note. We'll see what happens.
