Does anyone have any information on Benchmarking?

I have to answer the following questions in a customer RFI...

How does your organisation carry out measurements of process 'best'
practice and with whom do you compare to identify worldclass? e.g.
    benchmarking

What other measures and methodologies sre used by your organisation,
    and for what purpose?

    Thanks in advance

4449.1EHS BenchmarkingPOWDML::YENDERWed Feb 28 1996 08:409
EHS has engaged Arthur D Little and IDC to conduct benchmarks studies
on Product Stewardship/Design for Environment programs at some of
Digital's key competitors. These were one time events. Ongoing, we
do informal benchmarks on DfE, comparing Digital to the competition,
through our participation in industry forums such as IEEE subcommittee
of Electronics and the Environment, Electronic Industries Association,
European Computer Manufacturers Association, etc. Digital is also
represented on several subcommittees of ISO developing ISO14000.

Don't know if this will help, but Tim Carlson is the contact for
the Americas Benchmark Center in California. He can be reached at
714.261.4011. Their focus is on competitive performance benchmarking
    with systems technology.

We used to have an office that dealt with Benchmarking within our
enterprise for things associated with our processes and such, but I
think most of it has been dismantled.

Also, we did a lot of Benchmarking type activity associated with our
implementation of SAP/R3 internally. You may get some leads here on
what tools and processes we employed here from Rick Fricchione the SBU
Applied Technology Manager and Lee Mari the manager of the SAP/R3
    Expertise Center.

    Hope this helps

If it is process benchmarking as opposed to performance benchmarking
try Art Aronovitz in MRO. Art is benchmarkinmg leader for SBU M&D.

Please contact Bill Horzempa. Look him up in ELF. Digital has 2

RE: .4 <Bill Horzempa is the one>

Bill will immediately pass it onto the manager of the benchmark centers,
Tim Carlson @IVO. So it may be best to call Tim directly at 535-4011.
