4402.0. "Lead for notebook PCs" by COPS02::JNOSTIN () Thu Feb 01 1996 10:27

    I know of a company that would like to purchase 140 notebook pc's. The
    company is located in Boston, MA and the MIS person that would like to
    talk to Digital is located in Southbridge, MA.

    The appropriate person from Digital should call Dave Shea. His phone
    number is (508) 764-4201. He wants a high level 486 or pentium system
    with 16MB RAM, color notebook, large HDD (>540MB to 810mb or more).

    He has tried to deal with Digital before but found it hard for Digital
    to take his seriously. Dave wants to purchase 40 notebooks soon and
    another 100 within 30 days after the original purchase.

My understanding was that we sold such products through distributors now.
PCs Compleat would be one such. 800-642-4532.

4402.3This is not an easy question to answer!STOWOA::LUSTIGThu Feb 01 1996 12:5610
    Does anybody here actually try to buy stuff from the 800 number? Does
    that same person try, say HP, IBM, DELL, Compaq, etcetcetcetc?

    If we do not make it easy to buy our products, people will not buy our
    products.

    It doesn't count if it's easier for us. We have to make transactions
    with Digital easier for our Customers. Period.

    The Marketplace has a way of getting even.

If someone told me they wanted to buy a quarter million dollars of notebook
computers and I got referred to PCs Compleat and given an 800 number, I don't
think I would be going out of my way to give them my business (especially if
that customer's experience with PCs Compleat mirrored those mentioned in here.)

Well, then call 800-Digital and ask to be directed to the appropriate sales
agent, which may still be a distributor.
