4371.0. "Questions from the net" by BROKE::SERRA (You got it, we JOIN it....DBI) Wed Jan 17 1996 21:06

Since we now have a mail address 'on the net' and people get to it
from the Digital Home Page, i find myself getting tons of generic
    question.

FYI - Accessworks is a software product and we get questions on
printers, terminals, ieee spec questions ...

what should i do with these questions, it alot of work to go
looking for the 'right' place to forward the info request?

    thanks

I have tried previously to contact you and have not received a response. I
have
a cousin in Romania who is starting a business to develop commercials for
television. He needs a state-of-the-art computer which can deal with 3-D
graphics and can interface with European video equipment. Since our last
contact was not successful, I would suggest that you contact me in the U.S.
via email so that I can arrange to have the information he needs either sent
directly or through me. My address is: [email protected]. Please
contact me as soon as possible so that I can get this information to him.

Thank You,
Don Driscoll

Ha, ha, so you're first in the list! :-) People send mail to
[email protected] and back comes an alphabetical list of email
    addresses.

From experience, I try to find some place to refer them to, often it's
the digital home page. I do NOT forward the request on to someone
else. Being helpful in that way can backfire, espec. when the customer
writes you a few days later and complains that YOU did not respond.

4371.2I'll pass it on to the right conferenceI4GET::HENNINGThu Jan 18 1996 11:2221
Often, I'll try to SEARCH HUMANE::SYS$PUBLIC:EASYNOTES.LIS for the
right conference and pass it on. When I post the note, I try to make
it clear that I'm a first time visitor to the Left-Handed-Tape-Rewinder
conference and will never return, so please don't reply to me, reply to
    the customer.

I agree with Mark that sometimes this can create problems if the
customer thinks I know more than I do - so usually try to also tell
the customer "I'm not an expert in Tape Rewinders, but have passed your
note on to them. If you don't hear back in a few days, you might want
to try an official channel, like calling the phone support center."

And then I end with my .sig file which is intended to make it clear
that I am not an official channel.

some of the questions asked on the net should be refered to the
Customer Support Center (1-800-354-9000) where we (Digital) can
actually GET MONEY for answering questions.

If you get mail asking a technical question, refer the person to the
800 number, telling him that we will be glad to assist him with his
technical questions on a pay-per-call basis. They can even use Visa.

I'm not sure what the phone numbers are for the Customer Support
Centers in Europe, Latin America, or wherever else we have Support
Centers. I'm sure other folks in this conference can help out with
    that information??

The 1-800-354-9000 does work for the US and Canada, though I believe
that the Support Center in Hull, Canada has their own 800 number.

This exchange of notes is very helpful to those of us who receive technical
questions from customers who use the readers' comments E-NET address printed
in product documentation.

The Customer Support number, 1-800-354-9000, for the US and Canada will be
an enormous help.

Does anyone know the Customer Support contacts in Europe, Asia-Pacific
area, and Latin, Central and South America.

There is no single customer support number for Asia Pacific. The
country head office numbers for each country in AP are on the external web
pages under location and contact (or something like that, I just tried
to check and the server is not responding - grumble...)
