| There are few avenues to explore, both books and services we offer.
Quickest and cheapest for your customer (and items the customer should
have regardless of the path eventually taken; they're good publicity for
Digital) are the _OpenVMS and Digital UNIX Interoperability Guide_, part
number EC-N4657-43, and _Migration and Coexistence between OpenVMS &
UNIX_, part number EC-N5796-43. Both are available through VTX LOS or
from Moore Business forms.
Within the Interop Guide are a few business reply cards. Some of the
cards are for outside firms which offer strictly services (e.g., Migration
Software Systems), and some for firms which offer both migration products
and services (e.g., Sector 7).
There's also a card for Multivendor Customer Services, though you won't
find their name mentioned. We had an agreement with Sector 7 to resell
their migration software and to train some of our folks in its use. I'm
not sure of the current status of our offering there; we may have dropped
out. You can contact Rick Pottinger, DTN 297-9451, or USCTR1::POTTINGER,
for more up-to-date info.
We have an independent group of hardy souls who do brute force migrations.
Contact Roland Ramponi, DTN 381-0184, or MIASYS::RAMPONI for more info.
A lot of this information is on the Digital UNIX Connections CD, just
distributed with Digital UNIX V3.2D. Navigate your way through to
"migration". The woman most responsible for the CD is Suzanne LaForge,
DTN 223-1887, ICS::LAFORGE. She's a good central source, being in charge
of installed base marketing.

| One more point. You mention backups in yous last line. Boston Business
Computing (a.k.a. BBC) sells vbackup, which reads and writes tapes
compatible with OpenVMS BACKUP. BBC is in the books, on the CD and near
and dear to our hearts.

| Did the previous noters answer your question?
I believe Systems Integration has a VALUE PAK: VMS to UNIX Migration.
Basically, it will take you to any UNIX platform, however, they have
proof that it will go to Digital UNIX easier than any other platform.
See the following for more details. They have provide a presentation
at our Business Partner Training over the past 2 quarters:
QS-MV1A9-CP Migration for 1-8 VMS Seats $14,000
QS-MV2A9-CP Migration for 9-16 VMS Seats $20,000
QS-MV3A9-CP Migration for 17-32 VMS Seats $32,000
QS-MV4A9-CP Migration for 33-64 VMS Seats $56,000
QS-MV5A9-CP Migration for Unlimited VMS Seats $66,000
1 Week consulting in package 1-3
2 Week consulting in package 4,5
I think the toolset comes from a third party e.g, VX something.

| re: .3
That sounds like the Sector 7 toolkit. See the NEWVAX::SECTOR7
conference for some information, but it's been reeeeal quiet in there
in the last 6 months.
I was involved in the Sector 7 toolkit training, but I've yet to hear
any details of us doing delivery. I've heard that we had some
promising opportunities, but I don't know if any have materialized.

| Thanks. That's the product. I assume that it's alive and kicking as
SI delivered a presentation to 2000 Business Partners in 19 Cities on
this over the past two quarters. I'd check that conference and also
contact Rick. Rick is our contact for the SI contact delivered in our
quarterly (actually 3 times per year due to lack of bodies) Digital
Update Product Seminars (DUPS). I can't remember if I placed the MCS
and SI presentations in the VTX IR | DU category.

| The Digital Porting Assistant runs on Digital UNIX and helps you
convert sources from a variety of other vendors platforms & VMS. And
the price is a tad less than that mentioned in previous responses.
Cost: $0. It's available on CD 2 of the Digital UNIX distribution
starting with the Platinum release. It was born out of the FUSE
software environment and shares the Notes conf. at CLT::FUSE. Kit
announcement is in 15.last for those who wish to acquire it directly.

| It appears that I have already been mentioned in the replies to your
question. Please call me if I can help. Note that Suzanne Laforge
(223-1887) is the installed base UNIX marketing mgr and can also help
with the various options. SI works with Jon Powers at Sector7 and with
the the application engineering group to help sort out the most
appropriate migration options. Farough Ghahramani is part ofthe field
sales support team also helping with various options (447-2816), so
there are a number of places to get help. Hope this helps, and I look
forward to hearing from you (297-9451) to help.
