4338.0. "Digital and the history of computer graphics" by NETCAD::BRANAM (Steve, Hub Products Engineering, LKG2-2, DTN 226-6043) Thu Dec 21 1995 15:59

A nice plug from the "Toy Story" web pages (while I'm waiting for the compiler
to finish, you know...).

Excerpted from http://www.toystory.com/about/history/history.htm:

"Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) opened in August 1957 in Maynard,
Massachusetts. With only three employees they had 8,500 square feet of
production space in a converted woolen mill. Lawn chairs made up most of their
furniture but in November 1960 they introduced the PDP-1 (Programmed Data
Processor) the world's first small, interactive computer. Thirty years later,
Digital would post Fiscal revenues of $12.9 billion with over 124,000 employees
worldwide. Along the way, Digital would play important roles in the progress of
computer graphics."

I haven't gone further yet to see if we get any more mention.

Shame that it took 30 years to get to 124,000 employees and then only
    five years to 62,000.

A book is never finished until you get to the last page!

    Are your figures correct?
I might be wrong...if I still recall in CY92 we were around 130K
    employees, CY95 around 60K.
    Cheers,
