| This is the way it is done in the US as well. I think it's outrageous.

Estimate better. I see nothing wrong with cooperation between employer
and employee in this area, versus the 'us versus them' attitude that
is so prevalent today.
This is not directed at you, but in general, one who doesn't like it
is free to move on. Put yourself on the other side of the fence, and
you'll see that the only fair position is *on* the fence, cooperating
for the good of both.

| Personally, I have never had a problem with the expenses dept paying
out on time. The money has always been in the bank before my credit
card bill arrives.

Well, over here at least (in Germany) the credit card bills arrive real
quickly - but we have the option for a 'corporate' Amex card where the
bills are guaranteed to be delayed by some fixed time (I think 6
weeks). I have not opted for this, because I have enough cards as is
and use my personal one(s) but then again, I don't travel terribly often
nowadays, and you can always get an advance if you need one.
Of course, the situation varies from country to country, as well as the
processing speed of travel claims (seems to be at least 4 weeks here).
