4200.0. "Seeking Alpha sales rep in Toledo, Ohio" by AD::DEVER () Fri Nov 10 1995 12:47

I'm trying to find out who sells Alpha systems in Toledo, Ohio. A
friend of a friend who works for a cable TV co. in Toledo has been
referred to me. They have VAX equipment, and are interested in
    upgrading to Alpha.

I can't help him. I'm not in sales, and I don't know enough about
our system offerings, different configurations, VAX to Alpha migration
concerns, etc., to help him. Whom should I call?

I called the Toledo office, and was told that we no longer have a
sales force there. I then called 1-800-DIGITAL, which was a dismal
experience. I was given six numbers for the Cleveland, Detroit (I had
to tell them that Detroit was close to Toledo), and Columbus offices of
two Digital resellers. One of the numbers was wrong, and three have
been changed. When I finally got through to one of the companies
(Anixter), I was told that they only sell DEC terminals, not systems.
The other company, Pioneer Std., said they'd get back to me (everyone
was at a meeting). So they may be what I'm looking for, but I don't
    know that yet.

Sorry for spending so much time venting my frustration. All I'm
really after is someone to call who can sell Alphas in Toledo. I'm
_really_ glad I didn't just tell this guy to call 1-800-DIGITAL. I
don't know how our database is maintained, but at least four of six
numbers being wrong is horrible. (`At least' because I didn't call the
other two Anixter numbers, so I don't know if they are correct.) And I
asked for companies that sell Alpha systems in Toledo, but one of the
companies I was refered to doesn't even sell systems.

4200.1Call BP's office !GRANPA::JNOSTINThu Oct 19 1995 10:162
I'd recommend you call Bob Palmer's office or one of the appropriate
    VP's that deals with ALPHA's.
4200.2Try these two!MIMS::SANDERS_JThu Oct 19 1995 11:3712
Looking in ELF, there are two people list @TLO in sales and marketing:

    Patrick Gilmore
    SBU Sales and Marketing
    420-5415

    Brian Sampson
    ABU Sales and Marketing
    419-855-3302

I suggest you try these two instead of calling Bob Palmer.

    Try the following person:

    				Jim Fate@CSO
    				DTN: 443-4554

He is the Michigan/Ohio Central Region SBU Sales Manager. He can get
you connected with one of his people to help your friend.

In general, there is a sales specialist in each territory who handles
the installed base accounts with our distributors and resellers. You
can see who those people are in the central region territory by
accessing the homepage at http://www.texas3.sca.dec.com and clicking on
the org. charts. This is behind our firewall and therefore no
customers can see it. Also there is quite a bit of information there
concerning all our products and services that you can review as need
    be.

If you have problems, e-mail me and I'll help you.

.2 is correct with the name of Patrick Gilmore, however his new number
is (419) 877-1122. He is a good sales rep.

I used to be one of 7 sales reps working out of the Toledo office in
its "hayday". In fact, I used to be the account manager for the cable
company in question, which is running dual 6000's.

Minor problem: We sold them an SI project to install a
cable-management system that Digital/Israel used to be responsible for.
This project completed in '94, at which point the customer withheld
$250,000 (the final balance) contending they didn't get all
functionality they were promised. It is now in mediation, however
until it is settled Digital cannot sell anything without cash up front.
A distributor may be able to, in which case Pat Gilmore will be able to
line them up with two ex-Digital reps representing Avnet and Wylie
    Labs.

My basenote generated several helpful responses, many through Email.
Thanks to all who offered assistance. I was able to put this person in
touch with the tele-sales group; the customer said his contact was very
helpful. I've also talked with Pat Gilmore, who knows the customer.

Thanks again to all who helped,
	Dan
