| I won`t tell you what I really think about this.

| Did you call the recruiter that's listed for the job? I'm not sure
that EEO laws have any control over transfers within a company.

| "Equal Opportunity Employer" means that there is not supposed to be
discrimination based on race, sex, age, religion, national origin (and maybe
a couple of other things). Nothing about who you work for now...

| This reminds me of a year or two back when people were telling about
companies that didn't want to hire people with a DEC mindset. I don't
recall anyone claiming then that it was illegal...

| That's actually kind of funny...Even Digital now won't hire people
who work for Digital!

| This sort of thing has happened before inside Digital, especially during the
time of massive layoffs.

| Your base note did not say that your friend's skill set matched what
MCS was looking for. You just said he was a good worker. Well there
are very hard working and dedicated carpenters, but would you hire one
if you were looking for a brain surgeon.
I think Digital should hire the people who have the skills the job
requires, not just move people around to be nice.
Maybe your friend has the right skill set, in which case you might have
a valid complaint, but you failed to mention anything about this.

Maybe you missed the point. The "friend" is in fact secondary; the fact
that an entire organization is excluded from participating in an
employment competition is the issue.

| In fact, we're looking for brain surgeons with UNIX experience. :-)
Please send me resumes and I'll get them to the right people.
Seriously!

FWIW, I think that the reason that folks aren't being moved INTO the
MCS organizations is that some folks have made the determination
that some groups in MCS are over head count so they are shifting people
around within MCS before opening it up...
But as .9 said, if your friend has UNIX experience, have him send a
resume. We are in desperate need of expertise in that area (and
pretty much only that area I think...)
