PC Magazine (10-24-95 issue) has a section on Network Operating Systems. They have a sidebar titled What about RISC? on pages 232-233. To quote: "The Alpha Servers are a very cost effective way to get top-notch RISC application server performance, and they work well in x86 environments. One problem with Digital, however, has been that Digital Unix lacks many advanced management features provided by IBM's AIX or Sun's Solaris." And, Regarding HP PA-RISC: "These machines show performance almost equal to that of speedy Digital Alphas. I am the sales rep. for Staples, Inc. (the office superstore). They have asked me to respond. Any help will be appreciated? What features are missing? How can HP offer nearly the same performance? Cross-posted in Digital_UNIX conference too. Tony

Differentiate the applications as a business advantage to Staples as opposed to our box is faster, cuter, smaller, than theirs. The box should be immaterial, its the applications that users are running. Therefore, flexibility, upgradability, etc. become much more important. good hunting. the Greyhawk

In addition to .1's comment about Digital UNIX Version 4.0, be aware that ther is a PID available for it which details the much-improved System Management features in this soon-to-be-announced version of Digital UNIX. Marty Horwitz (908) 577-6040 is another resource you may wish to contact. He is the new Systems Management Marketing Manager for Digital UNIX. My recent experience with him indicates he is very "field-friendly" and willing to help. Regards, Dennis Rose Latin America Caribbean Territory
