4174.0. "Unix training at customer site" by ODIXIE::RREEVES () Fri Oct 06 1995 15:07

     I work in System Integration (SI), I think we are still named
    that this week . A customer has asked us to deliver at their site
    1 week worth of BASIC Unix training, including system administration
    and BASIC programming (like how to use the make facility).
    So silly me, I think lets get Digital Education involved. Assuming
    that training and Education go together, I tell my boss "Hey, lets get
    Digital Education involved". So he calls, and calls and each person he
    talks to passes him off to the next to the point that he tells me "you
    do it ".

    So I'm asking you fellow readers, who is the best contact in
    Education who would be capable of :

    1. Calling a customer to determine the training requirments.

    2. Identifing a trainer to go to the customer site to deliver the
       training.

    3. Commit.

    I don't think this is Rocket Science.

4174.1Try Digital Learning Services.....MSDOA::SCRIVENFri Oct 06 1995 15:2514
    Assuming your customer is in the general vicinity of you node i.e.,
    Georgia, I would start with Walt Blanchard, Digital Learning Services
    Sales Rep. He's in Alpharetta, sorry, I don't have his # handy, but he
    is in ELF....

    If that doesn't work, our partners, such as Pioneer, Avnet, etc., are
    service sellers and are capable of selling this type
    service/consulting. If you need a contact there, let me know off line
    and I can do some further research for your.

    Hope this helps....

    First, talk to the nearest training facility. Usually, they are very
    helpful to find out who is the proper contact for you.

    Second, to train customer on site, it is the customer's obligation to
    provide equipments and set them up. There is a minimum number of students
    required depends on courses ( it used to be 8). Make sure your
    customer understands this.

    Third, my previous experience to book an instructor for customers is long
    especially during the incoming holiday season.

    Good luck!

    MCS has a new charter to do Customer Program/Project management. I
    believe this is in their charter. I don't know who it would be for
    your area, but a place to start would be to call Tim Ayers DTN 474.2679
