4130.0. "RESELLING MICROSOFT PRODUCTS" by CSLALL::KEITH_AA () Tue Sep 19 1995 17:59

    Can we (Digital - MCS) buy Microsoft products directly from Microsoft
    for resale? If not why not? Currently we are buying M/S products
    for resale from distributors.

    Thanks,

Please be more specific with your question, like which products? Some products
we manufacture ourselves for 'resale'. I think the Windows NT kits are in this
catagory. Other products, like Office, we probably don't make the kits
ourselves nor stock them. I think in the past this was handled by 800 Software
when we owned them.

I hope this gives you some background that can help you get the right answer.
4130.2Products - ALLCSLALL::KEITH_AAThu Sep 21 1995 10:5513

    Like all products. Windows for Workgroups, Windows NT, MOLP A, B
    licenses, MS Office, MS Office Pro...etc. We have customers that we
    procure Microsoft products for, we have other customers that we buy
    the products and then install them on PC's (Exp. DEC, Compaq, IBM).

    Any Microsoft product that a customer requests (now remember I'm in the
    MCS org not the PC PBU) we buy the product from Channels not directly
    from Microsoft. My question is why and do other PC OEMs, such as IBM
    do the same?

    Thanks,

    I suggest you contact someone in the Multivendor Support Services
    Group headed by Paul Shaughnessy here in Stow. His group is
    responsible for those deals. His secretary is Sally Nolan (dtn
    276-8711), I'm sure she can tell you who handles Microsoft.
