4125.0. "A message from Nasser" by QUARK::LIONEL (Free advice is worth every cent) Sun Sep 17 1995 15:29
I received the following from, yes, the real Nasser Abbasi, to share
with those DIGITAL readers who remember him well.

Hi \Steve !
thanks for your reply. I did not think you'll remember me. I sure do
remember your name.
Yes, please do say a *big* hi to my old DECeeees friends in the DEC notes file.
I sure missed chatting and arguing and giving my always very good and
convincing rebuttals about some of the most important issues of the day in
the DEC NOTES files.
In retrospective from a far and beyond, one thing I thought was very
valuable in DEC is the ability to share information between employees using
NOTES files to help each others out and to have a central medium for one to
use for technical discussions.
I live/work/sleep now in southern california, The sun here is up 24 hours a
day (sometimes i wish i can shoot it down), people here dress kind'a weird I
think, back in Nashua, NH and in masususstetssts people seemed to dress sort
of differently, but may be it is just me, but here you can get a very good
chicken buretto 24 hours a day. (Actually I am about to consume another one
now).
Exciting thing that happened to me last year is going to Europe to play
chess, after my downsizing from DEC, I went to Spain/Hungary/England/Wales
and played chess for 3 months, I got my pictures in some of the Wales papers
for losing to a big player, (I never got my picture in a paper before so
that was kind'a exciting) I also became a Fide chess Master and a US senior
chess master last year. (I almost got first place in the US open last year
If it were not for some stupidest last game move in my part).
After I came back from Europe, I put all my belonging in a U-Hall truck and
drove across the country from NH to California. It took me 8 days to drive
and gave me the chance to see some parts of the US I never seen before.
I work now in the area of wireless communications, CDMA, call processing,
mobile communications and things of this sort, and doing more C++
programming , also this fall I am going to USCD to take another digital
communications course at the EE department, as I am starting to prepare to
work on a PhD in the area of signal processing next fall, so that should be
something fun.
That is all about it for me, I am glad to see you are still with DEC and to
get this chance to chat with you.
take care,
\nasser
