    I'm surprised no one has started a discussion on the Microsoft
    Alliance.
    
    So here it is, what do you think?

    At first I thought it was good. Not much more than PR but very good.
    However, the more I hear the more concerned I've become. What I have
    been told is different than what I had thought.
    
    NT Clusters:
    Microsoft licensed Digital's NT clustering for inclusion in a future
    release of NT.
    
    My first reaction was great - we're going to receive a royalty every
    time Microsoft sells NT - what a nice turn around. However, come to
    find out that it is not that kind of "license". There are no future
    royalties to be had. So the question was asked "Did they buy a snapshot
    of the code?" - no...
    
    
    Cross licensing/patents:
    
    I had assumed that products generated as a result of this alliance
    would be cross patented/licensed. When the answer to that was no, I
    assumed that products that were relevant to the alliance were the ones
    that were given to Microsoft. Apparently I was wrong again - it
    includes ALL licenses/patents.
    
    So assuming that Bill Gates is an upstanding man who will do what is
    best for both Digital and Microsoft we will be sitting pretty as a
    result of this - they control a great segment of the computer market,
    their endorsement of our technology is important. Assuming he's not...

On a slightly related topic... can anyone identify the 
source of the golf-shirt that Palmer gave Gates
featuring the Digital/Microsoft logo?

Could use that particular style to our advantage
at trade shows.
