Ethics Office establishes business ethics Notes file

For the next several months, employees worldwide will be able to
learn more about and comment on Digital's business ethics practices
through a new ETHICS Notes file.
The initial entry will appear in Notes the week of Aug. 14. To
add this new entry to your notebook, type ADD ENTRY POWDML::ETHICS at
   your Notes prompt.
New issues will be posted on a periodic basis. Employees can
share their opinions on how to resolve ethics dilemmas that arise from
   common business situations.
According to John Buckley, operations manager for the Ethics
Office, "This is a chance to establish a vigorous dialogue about
Digital's ethics standards. We hope that employees will use the
Notes file as a way to refresh their knowledge of Digital's standards,
while we in the Ethics Office continue to learn how the standards are
understood by employees and how they impact business activity."
The Ethics Office will moderate the Notes file and provide
commentary on the discussion. All normal standards for noting will
apply, especially those regarding respect for individuals.
Employees can suggest additional topics for the ETHICS notesfile
or contact the Ethics Office for any other reason via E-mail: Ethics
Office @MSO or POWDML::ETHICSOFFICE. There is also an Ethics Helpline
at DTN 223-4636 (outside, dial 508-493-4636).
Currently, employees can access the complete Code of Business
Conduct on line by typing VTX POLICY at the system ($) prompt.

Does anyone know what "insufficient privilege or file protection
    violation" means???

This is the message I got when I tried to open the ETHICS conference
this morning. Is it on-line yet?

    Cheers,

Yes, it means that you're being taught a lesson in the ethics of
    privacy :^)

Well cheers buddy. You really answered my questions thoroughly. I'll
know in future not to seek any friendly advice from you. I don't think
I was asking for too much.

    Feel free to correct me.

4035.6Hey Gavin, there really WAS a :-) in .4 ...DRDAN::KALIKOWW3: Surf-it 2 Surfeit!Wed Aug 16 1995 07:3919
... which, added to Roelof's delightful NotesPersona, adds up to a
100%-in-fun intention for his .4 ... Lighten up, friend, what he (and
now I) am saying is that the long-awaited debt of POWDML::ETHICS is
still some time in the future. Its proprietors HAVE created it, as
promised, but are doubtless still "arranging the furniture" therein
until they deem it ready to Receive Visitors. When they're set,

    Notes> Open POWDML::ETHICS

    will work.

Curiously enough, I too am doing just that these daze, with a more
public (outside-the-firewall) version of a descendant of DECnotes. The
server is up, but the door is still closed while I doll things up.
So I know what the POWDML::ETHICS folks are doing, at least in
principle -- it's just that I'm doing it on the Web, in multimedia.
